  1. Thanks for that worm & spanner,,, both sites are good,,, but I wonder why they skipped my front door,,,,,,,,, Moray Firth!!!!!!! but the rest are interesting These charts cover practically all of Scotland, as I said before they are all very old but I would still expect them to be reasonably accurate.
  2. Too dammed right it`s interesting,, great,,, Ta,,, can you get charts for other areas on that website, I`ve been looking for one of the Morayshire coast from Inverness to Fraserburgh You may find the chart below of interest. Its very old but I should think it still gives a fair idea of the Sea in the area http://www.nls.uk/digitallibrary/map/early...and.cfm?id=1285
  3. Great, Thanks for that Worm,, I`ll try all these marks... I just checked them on the map and found them all. I`ll get sandeel and Maks today,,, I`ll also try Mussel and squid and a bit of spinning Ive fished there in the summer. Caught losts of small Pollack and Coalies along with Dogfish and Some small Cod. The marks I caught at where Rubha Dunan - headland on shore near the hotel we caught not just on the end but in the corner opposite the pier . The pier itself produced quite well as did the rocks between Altandhu and Rief - there are some good comfortable ledges about half way. Most fish came to either sandeel, mackeral and lots of small fish to feathers.
  4. Thanks for that BIGMAN,,,I`ve never heard of Lythe??????????

  6. Hi all, I`m heading up to Achiltibue and Reiff just north of Ullapool this coming weekend to do some fishing off of the rocks there and I just wondered if anyone had tried it in that area. So far I have been told to fish off of the flat rock just south of the sea cliffs at Reiff using tobys and blinkers. Johnny.

    PORTSOY

Hi Grouse . Sorry I've no advise to give - I live way down South in Hampshire, it's just that I lived in Morayshire for a few years (bloody incomers ! ) and 'Portsoy' caught my eye. Did a little bit of shore fishing along the coast there but never had much joy except for loads of small red cod off Lossiemouth peir. I guess I was doing it all wrong - no local knowledge and I was the only beach fisherman I ever saw ! Best day I had was watching the dolphins from that small pier at Hopeman. Interested to hear how the fishing is up your way. Like to come back for a visit some time . Hi Richard, Thanks for the reply,, I`m originally from Aberdeen but when I started fishing about 40 years ago you could dangle a bent pin over the end of the pier and get good fish, not the case nowadays. But last year the bug bit again and I kitted myself out with new sea fishing gear, but apart from some coalfish, flatties, ling and the dreaded crabs I`ve not caught much else. I`ve even been tempted to have a go at the local trout fishery but so far managed to stay on the sea shore. My mate is looking for a boat just now so when he gets that things will hopefully be better, certainly couldn`t get worse. Johnny. PS, If it wasn`t for incomers (mostly RAF) it would be dead up here.

  9. I tried it,,,,,,,,, it`s **** Far better going down to the rockpools, collecting crab and putting it into finger bandage tied with plastic tiewraps at both ends
  10. Yep, Same problem up here on the Moray coast, planning a boat now, seems the only way forward, Johnny.

    Mussels

Hi Folks, I just thought I would add a tip I have,,,, I use the smallest size white tiewraps for tying the ends of my finger bandage and also use them for tying back sandeels and other baits to the hookshanks, it works great and you just snip them off to rebait,,,,, no messy tangle of bait elastic to cut off. Shop around to find the cheapest packs, I can get a bag of a thousand for a couple of quid at my local saturday market. Also the finger bandage is great for a cocktail, make them up in advance and freeze them, the muslin mesh holds well on the hooks and is easy snipped off with a scissors when depleted. One other tip for a ruddy duddy bag is a tesco or asda cheepo fish based cat food, choose one with plenty cereal, and all I do is put a few scoops or a whole tin into a soap powder tablet bag the the wife puts in with the washing, the mesh holes are just right, and bung it over the boat, pier, beach, whatever, works great. Nice to meet you all for the first time, Johnny.
