  1. spanner in works time

i dont trust clutches or back winding.

If i'm using light lines i'm virtually always using a close face reel and as the clutch on my early 506's was basically rubbish and had no backwind if a fish ran i just hit the button and held the line between my fingers.

On heavier line i tend to be using my shimano bait runner if the fish runs and when getting close to the net i just switch the baitrunner on to let them go and control the spool with my finger.

  2. I've fished the canal for years around my area. Its full of carp and not tiny ones either Milton keynes Carp record is 34lb last i heard a fish caught from the canal.I've had them out personally to 22lb but that was the only year i targetted them. To many waters in my opinion are being stocked with carp . waters that were ideal bream/tench waters have been decimated. To the extent i stopped my membership of 2 different clubs because of there stocking policy. I now dream of finding a small pond with crucians and tench with rudd rippling the surface. Dont have to be big fish but the idea to me is idyllic.

I think the carp stocking policy nationwide needs looking at if a water contains no or few carp then none should be introduced and that should be EA legislation.

  3. What do you want to know??

Originally from luton so know most of the waters in the area.

General fishing with chances of everything i would pick from 3 clubs

    Vauxhall AC

    Luton AC

Milton Keynes (technically bucks but most of the waters are round that way anyway)

Vauxhall main waters are the sharnbrook lakes complex with river aswell

Lakes hold Carp to 35 Bream To 14 tench to 9

River holds barbel 16 (possibly a record to be found on these strecthes )

    Chub 7

    all waters contain pike,perch,roach etc.

    Luton AC

    beckerings resevoir ,tingrith

    large carp ,bream tench

also a lot of canal with large carp in it

river sections they have i never really rated.

    Milton Keynes

Loads of lakes reasonable amount of River

Lakes are mainly carp to around 35lb there are a few big bream but hard to locate.

river adams mill is now back on the club ticket but its not the water it was,

reasonable chub and chance of a barbel .

if you want further details i'll do what i can.

  4. My biggest barbel was landed on 3lb line and a size 18 hook.

So can appreciate how much skill is required to land a dbl figure one on this method.

    Mine wasnt quite dbl figure.

As for cruelty to the fish your using blanced tackle and have to tire the fish out rather than bully it.

Aslong as you recover it properly which i'm certain would have been done the fish suffers a lot less damage than using heavy lines and huge hooks.

  5. Well there is an upside. I've pored over your pictures and just cannot see your bivvie, chair, unhooking mat, platform or the ground. The bream can't have seen you.

Most importantly we cant see you at all.

  6. A thought occured to the other day. Are we anglers resposible of making the size of shoal of the larger fish. The scenario in my mind was A shoal of say 6 large bream. 1 gets caught at 50yds range the rest of the shoal scatter. How would the fish you;ve caught locate the shoal. Its now 50yds away from where it was feeding and the remaining shoal has scattered in 20 acres of water. Is this fish now a loner?

  7. After time you will have lots of rigs for different situations. But the shortest rig i'm likely to ever have is 4ft. There is a balancing act between the shortest line between tip and float. and the length of rig requifred overall to swing the hook to your hand for baiting etc.

  8. How long is the pole?

Anything over 6meters is probable put together under this it could be telescopic.

You mention eleastics by colour which really doesnt help much as different manufacturers use different colours and i know of some where a yellow elastic could be 4 or 16 from the same manufacturer.

My advice ould be to pop down to your tackle shop with the pole they'll be able to help a lot more as they can see the pole.

  9. .

They must still be there during winter so perhaps their metabolism slows right down and they hole up in a comfortable spot with minimal feeding activity.

i can understand the slowing metabolism in winter but that doesnt explain why in the height of summer a lot of waters appear to be devoid of fish yet we know they are there.

  10. It Occured to me that the species we target tend to have windows in the year where we target them.

Tench being a classic example we get them late spring early summer but come august they seem to decline/ dissapear. If it was the weather i could understand but that doesnt really make sense as its still warm so i assume they must still be feeding so where do they go.

The tench is just an example i know some lakes i fish seem to have no roach/rudd until july august then its a fish a chuck. Bream i've always tended to target sept / oct so why are they harder to catch at other times of year(excluding winter)

    Ideas?

  11. If i use my reel fitted with 6lb for a spot of mackerel spinning can i not use that line freshwater fishing again, or will a wash under the tap be enough to make it coarse fishing friendly again? Thanks

It wouldnt be the line i was concerned with which will probably be fine.

The major issue is to thoroughly rinse and dry your reel after using it on the coast its amazing how fast salt water will corrode fishing reels. If not maintained properly.

  12. Dont know if these details are still correct but worth a go-

    BROWNING

Zebco Sports UK, Unit 9, Heron Business Park, Whitefield Avenue, Sundon Park, Luton, Beds, LU3 3BB

    01257 224240 bwuk@globalnet.co.uk

The dialling code for Luton is 01582.

I dont think they are there now as i use to live nearby and went for a wander around that estate once looking for them ( seeing what bits i could aquire from there scrap bin) never did find them.

  13. Its just my view but, i believe spade end hooks are essential in the small sizes. Attatching an eye to these hooks would mean the eye would be large compared to the rest of the the hook or to small to be practicle.I'm really talking about from size 20 and smaller.

In large hooks size 10 or bigger then its an eyed hook everytime.

The range 10-20 i think is personal choice and really depends what i'm fishing for. If i require a fine wire hook i use spade end for strength i use eyed.

  14. Billing Aquadrome

    Cosgrove Park

    Emberton Park
