  1. It's a couple of years now since we stayed there, I used to fish off the end of the rocks in Corellejo, I just used a 20g toby at first light this was the fish of the hols, (Bluefish) it shot off like a bullet, how I landed it I don't know, those rock are well slippy lower down.

Had a few small Barracuda there as well.

    Good luck

  2. Hi,

At last some popper anglers - I thought we were going extinct !!

I haven't fished Luce Bay but I love using poppers in similar terrain in Kerry. I find that stillwater like in your picture isn't as good as water with some foam / suds in it. In frothy water I've had bass hit the popper as soon as it hits the water. Also I think that the wary older bass aren't afraid to rise up in frothy water.

Keep on popping... and do use braid, you have much more control over the movement of the popper, and if it snags, you can usually pull it out !

Yeah that's definitely another big plus for braid, one mark I fish is fairly shallow and weedy, I tend to fling a 20g toby as far as poss, using mono you stood a good chance of losing it if you get snagged, using the braid a good yank and they nearly always come back.

I must try a bit harder with those poppers, tend to keep going for the old faithful tobies :D

  3. If you are fishing close in with little surf or swell then its ok, even then it's better on a fixed spool other wise I have found mono better, you tend to get the lead pulling out sooner and the rod is constantly back and forth, I swear by braid for the boat though, I do use 20lb powerpro for spinning again far superior to mono once you get it 'run in'

I always use a shockleader just less than the breaking strain of the braid, that way you should not lose the braid when you get snagged, four turn uni knot on the mono to a 8 turn uni on the braid makes a good joint.

Ken, I did have a couple of spools of iron silk mono, 15 & 12lbs a nice line but I just had no confidence in the knots it snapped far to easy, flung it out in the end :yucky:

  4. Great report snatcher, glad to you got the slipway at ardwell eventually, hell they took some time getting that off the ground, looks a fine job. Hope to see some more great reports from the Mull next year. Cheers

    Sean,

  5. Sean, Paul Griffiths now lives in Lochans with Marina and has some sort of holiday apartment in Tenerife. He called into the Clash last weekend for a meal and I had a bit crack with him.

As far as the bass fishing goes in Loch Ryan not too sure. I have blanked there a couple of times. Eric McClean from the Sports Shop will be the chap to tell you.

Cheers snatcher, if you see paul again, tell him i was asking for him, sound guy is paul.

Just posted a report from a great session we had over here a few days ago.

    Sean,

  7. Hi Ian,

Just came across your post, nasty thing that Red Tide, I moved over to Co Kerry 3 years ago now learing the delights of 'Dingle Bay' after a good few years at 'Dally bay' and we had a bad hit of here last summer, the first i knew of it the kids came back from a day out at the beach saying the same - dead sandeels and other fish all over, other visits to the beach same thing and good sized fish as well, tons of shellfish washed up, dead crabs, even went one night to dig lugworm could'nt believe my eyes when all the worms were comig out of thier holes dying on the surface!

It knackered a lot of the fishing up last summer, i'm sure it wiped out a big percentage of the Thornbacks as well, at least we managed some good Tope. I notice you started this post in 2004 how was last summer with you did it return again?? the links below shows the areas affected

Kept meening to thank you for the advice you posted last November 'when to strike Tope' will print that off for this season!

Would you like numbers for Dally bay where these big chappies lie? http://www.drumlochart.co.uk/images/galler...ishing/huss.htm

    Cheers Sean,
