It's a couple of years now since we stayed there, I used to fish off the end of the rocks in Corellejo, I just used a 20g toby at first light this was the fish of the hols, (Bluefish) it shot off like a bullet, how I landed it I don't know, those rock are well slippy lower down. Had a few small Barracuda there as well. Good luck

Yeah that's definitely another big plus for braid, one mark I fish is fairly shallow and weedy, I tend to fling a 20g toby as far as poss, using mono you stood a good chance of losing it if you get snagged, using the braid a good yank and they nearly always come back. I must try a bit harder with those poppers, tend to keep going for the old faithful tobies

Another good read there Snatcher, have you ever tried braid for spinning? I have been using 20lb powerpro, wouldn't go back to mono now, it can be a bit troublesome when new, but once run in it's really good. Sean

If you are fishing close in with little surf or swell then its ok, even then it's better on a fixed spool other wise I have found mono better, you tend to get the lead pulling out sooner and the rod is constantly back and forth, I swear by braid for the boat though, I do use 20lb powerpro for spinning again far superior to mono once you get it 'run in' I always use a shockleader just less than the breaking strain of the braid, that way you should not lose the braid when you get snagged, four turn uni knot on the mono to a 8 turn uni on the braid makes a good joint. Ken, I did have a couple of spools of iron silk mono, 15 & 12lbs a nice line but I just had no confidence in the knots it snapped far to easy, flung it out in the end

Try a different make of line, I've had bother like that with some makes, berkley vanish and that iron silk comes to mind! Sean,

Hi Ian, Just came across your post, nasty thing that Red Tide, I moved over to Co Kerry 3 years ago now learing the delights of 'Dingle Bay' after a good few years at 'Dally bay' and we had a bad hit of here last summer, the first i knew of it the kids came back from a day out at the beach saying the same - dead sandeels and other fish all over, other visits to the beach same thing and good sized fish as well, tons of shellfish washed up, dead crabs, even went one night to dig lugworm could'nt believe my eyes when all the worms were comig out of thier holes dying on the surface! It knackered a lot of the fishing up last summer, i'm sure it wiped out a big percentage of the Thornbacks as well, at least we managed some good Tope.
