  1. thanks Only looking for Yak, no need for paddles etc. Basically changes to family circumstances (due 21st Dec! ) means that Yak trips will be short and less frequent for a little while! The Yakboard can be kept in the back of my Van and hopefully mean I can grab an 1hr now and then straight after work. Taking the fishing Yak out takes a bit of planning and a little more time No off shore trips but some "slow!" trolling along the point for Bass should still provide me the fix I need! Looks like you can get them new for around £270 and expect the retailers can offer better prices... but thats too much so looking for 2nd hand. Figure by looking now can avoid the hikes in 2nd hand prices come Summer 2007! I do search ebay but if anyone sees an advert in a local paper could you let me know as may travel if on route to family / friends. thanks
  2. Anyone got a a 2nd hand YakBoard to sell?
  3. 2 types of pots are used by the local commercial fishermen from what I can gather. 1 has an rigid plastic funnel entrance on the side with a sectioned area inside that is linked by a net funnel. The other design has a rigid plastic funnel entrance on top and no net funnel inside or any entrances on the side. Plan to make a pot for my own use. How do these 2 designs compare? Are they both targetting Lobster / Crab or are the differences to target 1 or the other? Thanks.
  4. Off the point spuds. Monday - No swell, just wind chop as the wind pushed against the tide. Once the tide turned it was very nice. Ok, not flat but no problems launching etc. The Pollock were taken on lures.
  5. Srolled down the threads and couldn't find anything recent on the north coast so... Out from Westward Ho! Rocks. Choppy and windy! Took a mate out on the tandem who has never fished before. Got him into 2 Pollock. and.. I blanked I love seeing people catch their first fish. Even better when they catch the 2nd, excited and shouting its bigger than the 1st, to see it surface Anyone else getting out and catching on the North side?
  6. Well I'm currently in the process of finishing a Tray and New Hatch cover for my Cuda 128 so I can surface mount it to my Kingfisher. Because of this its not practical to remove it (I have a 2nd Yak with no fish finder). The 2nd Yak s a cobra Tandem, really purchased for the wife / friends to enjoy.. and although we will fish from it, this is not its primary use. Seeing the cheap fishfinders on ebay and also Lidel (check the website, from Thursday £29). I question how useful these cheapies are? Someone must have bought a cheapie from ebay or Lidel (they stocked them last year as well, for 1 week like they do.). Intersted to have some feedback. If they are worthwhile they are compact / portable and would be easy to fit. If they are simple no use I'll keep my ££s. if they are worthwhile I'll wrap one up for my Wife for Easter
  7. "I don't want to do any irreparable damage with epoxy " If you use araldite rapid you will find the bond can be removed with hot water. Not sure why a thermosetting plastic such as epoxy does this, but it works with alradite rapid. Common practice with paddle blades as in the future you are able to adjust the feather. HOWEVER! WARNING!!... I do not know how the hot water would effect a plastic sit on! / or the transducer. Still worth mentioning as a few of us are paddling GRP kayaks.
  8. another is the Cobra Tandem http://cobrakayaks.com/tandem.html The older model had extra foot well to allow for a middle seating position when paddling solo.
  9. I would expect the bloke from garmin is protecting the company from possible Warrenty claims from kayakers!
  10. What would you consider a safe current to anchor in? If you can paddle against the current and maintain your ground would you consider it too fast to anchor? or if you can make slow progress into the current with strong paddle strokes would you anchor?? thanks
  11. I'm thinking of dropping my anchor with a bouy, and then running a length of line back to the bouy so the pull of the rope to the kayak is parrallel with the surface. Has anyone practiced this? Any other tips or experiences of anchoring in faster currents?

    Hi all!

Thanks for the welcome, I'm just outside of Barnstaple, so Bude isn't to far. I paddle most of the coast between Bude and Woolacombe. Mackeral! , Horse Mackeral, Wrasse, Pollock, Whiting and Bass is the usual catch (depending on month!). Have been kayak fishing for almost 10 years. Originally I used to fish from a Perception Dancer! I've only been trying sit on tops for the past two years and what a difference. Used to land Bass on a hand line with no where to put my paddle, or the fish for that matter. Used to fish the Sidmouth area before we moved up to this coast. Yes Speciman, thats the Macski. Pav

    Hi all!

Hi all! Glad to have found a UK forum. Have been hanging out on the USA sites, but can't contribute much and our Fish seem small to compare! North Devon based. Paddling a Macski and have just got a Cobra Tandem for the Wife / friends to enjoy. I'll have to strap on a crate with rod pods quickly before the wife notices! Mainly Bass fishing but this year have chosen to continue paddling and trying to add a COD to my catch list. Only Whiting so far Also freedive from my siton during the summer so if you see it floating anchored with no one about I'm coming back for it! Pav.
