Does anyone know whether flounder can be expected within the river Deben (Suffolk) at the moment? I have tried at the mouth from the shingle beach between the Martello tower and Felixtowe Ferry sailing club (admittedly the tide is ludicrously strong, but the bottom in the channel is sand not shingle I believe) and also from a dinghy downstream from Waldringfiled as far as 'the rocks', both times with lug as bait. The tide was neaps during the last hour of flood and then slack when fishing at the mouth, and the middle hours of a flood tide during springs when at Waldringfiled. No success so far. This is almost certainly because (a) I'm incompetant or ( am fishing in a silly place (see (a)!), but I would prefer to stay inside the river if at all possible because the real reason I am fishing at the moment is to accompany my 10 year old son. He is mad keen on sea fishing yet can only cast a little way and I don't want to take him (or me for that matter) out of the river in a dinghy during January. Any advice, even just "forget it", would be warmly welcomed. james
