I will be going to Brunei in a few weeks for 10 days (working, not holiday!). Can anyone tell me if its worth taking a travel rod or two? I was thinking of taking aq fly rod and a spinning rod, but I din't have a clue what swims aound out there - does anyone have any idea and can anyone advise me what kit to take? I will be in the jungle as well as on the coast Thanks

i could do with a little help as I have to make a choice between my two bivvies. I need to free up some space and make some moneuy in the process. I have a Trakker Ultralite Aquatexx (just the bivvy with no overwrap) and a Fox Evolution Plus, with groundsheet and wrap. I hardly ever use a bivvy, and tend to fish short sessions only - ususlly a day, 2 at the most. I also like to have the minimum weight to carry. I love the Trakker Ultralite but even though its "ultralite", it is quite heavy to carry. The fox Evo Plus isn't as plush as the trakker, but its lighter. The other thing about the fox is that the front can be raised or lowered to adapt to the conditions, and doesn't need storm poles which also reduces the weight. My question is which do I keep - do I go for higher quality (trakker) or practicality (fox)!!??

I've got a folding line tray somehere - I will dig it out. Thanks for the advice. I also have a 7 weight setup but thought that might be a bit undergunned. After what you've said, the 7 weight might offer more fun than the 9 weight.

I've got a 9wt setup that I would usually use for pike. It includes a purpose made (cortland) pike fly line. My question is, do I need a specialist saltwater fly line, or should I use the pike line? If I use the pike line, will the saltwater ruin it? Any suggestions for a decent saltwater fly line in a 9wt?

I was driving down Camp Farm Rd in Aldershot - a road that runs parallel to the Basingstoke Canal, on Sunday. A group of people were fishing oposite the two sunked barges with poles. Imagine my surprise when one of them shipped his pole straight back, across the towpath and halfway across the road. I had to take evasive action to avoid hitting his pole. No doubt it would've damaged my car, but it would've cost him a new pole. Whoever you are, and if you're reading this, you know who you are, don't be so bl**dy stupid in future. Try shipping your pole paralell to the canal, i.e. along the towpath. You can do it, becuase that's what I do.

I've bought myself an Orvis 909 4piece 9ft 9wt rod, tip flex version, originally for saltwater fly fishing. Can anyone tell me if this is suitable for pike on the fly? Also, I have 8 weight and 10 weight lines already. Before I rush out and buy new 9wt lines, will the rod handle a 10 or 8 weight, or should I buy 9 weight? Can anyone recommend good 9 weight lines for pike?

Has anyone tried the TF Gear Tremor Carp Feeder rod? if so, are they as good as the claim? Also, does anyone know how many quivertips it come with, and in what b/s. thanks

I was thinking about going down to Abbotsbury one night this week, but don't know if it will be a waste of fuel. Can anyone tell me how Abbotsbury is fishing at the moment? Can anyone advise me on the best spots to fish from the carpark area?

From the shape of the Dorsal Fin, it looks like a Basking Shark. The Great White has a more pointed dorsal. Also, this new film could have been taken anywhere!

I was thinking about buying one the TF gear quick erect day shelters. Has anyone else got one? If so, are they any good?

I'm sure this has been asked a million times, but here goes.... I live in Aldershot. Hampshire and have been thinking about buying myself a Yak for a couple of years now. My 40th birthday is coming up soon, and I've persuaded my wife to buy me a Yak, and that I'm not going through a mid year crisis! My question is, which one? I want to be able to transport it easily, and to use it in both the sea as well as on the canal and rivers. Do I really have to have a fishfinder? I've seen lots on Ebay, and quite liked the idea of buying an Ocean Frenzy so that I could surf as well as fish, but is a shorter yak not a good idea for longer distance / offshore paddling? Costco also sell Kayaks, but I've not been for a look yet. Can anyone advise me on how to rig it for fishing? thanks John

I've got a DVD "Threshers Yak Style" - an american group of yakkers catching Threshers on Rapalas. Short but quite good. Shark fishing with Yaks is by now means a new thing.

I've just ordered myself two TF Gear reels (one front drag and one rear drag X9 reels) from www.Fishtec.co.uk but the spare spools were sold out. Does anyone know where I can buy some spare spools from? thanks John

I want to buy a yak, but I don't think it will get used too often. Instead of going to whole hog and spending £600 plus on a Prowler, I was thinking of buyong an Ocean Kayak Frenzy, which I could also use in the surf for a bit of fun. My question is, are the shorter boards such as the frenzy (but not the Yak board as it doesn't have enough weight capacity) of any use as an anglers kayak? Or should I spend more and go for a full size yak?

I am looking for a decent second hand angling Kayak, preferably an Ocean Kayak, and with fishfinder etc already fitted (not essential). Will be buying in a few weeks as I'm about to move house.

I've finally persuaded my wife to buy me a Kayak! Before I dive in (not literally) I was hoping some of you could give me some sound advice. Firstly - I want to keep the cost down by buying a second had Yak, but don't know which one to look for. I'm 5ft 10, and about 90kg. I don't want to have to too much DIY to convert it for angling, so I want one of the Angler models - posssibly the Ocean Prowler, but should I go for the 13 or 15ft version? I quite like the look of the Ocean Kayak Drifter 13ft. Next Question - do I need to buy a full drysuit, or should I go for decent waterproofs? Next Question - what sort of floatation device should I go for - a full vest? Last Qusetion - what othe rsafety gear? can anyone guesstimate the total cost of a decent second hand setup? I'm surrently serving with the Army in Germany, but it looks like I'm on the move to Aldershot this summer, and I hope to be yaking along the hampshire / Dorset coast.

Now I think about it, I think its a preatty stupid idea. especially as I've just read that great White Sharks are expected of the UK coastline this year (mind you, they've been here before!)
