  1. Just got back from a exploritory fishing trip in the Red Sea off Hurghada Egypt. 5 of us stayed on a boat for 6 days and travelled up the Suez Channel mainly trolling but also bottom fishing and specifically using poppers for Giant Trevally. The weather was against us for most of the time and the wind made it very difficult to anchor above deep water reefs. However, the wind dropped on the last day and we managed to use the poppers as the water was calm over the shallow reefs. The results were spectacular with me landing my first GT of around 50lb, which gave me an unbelievable fight as it tried to get back into the reef. Overall this place has a lot of potential and is very cheap when compared to other big game destinations, although we hads to take most of our own tackle. We also did some cracking snorkelling and for those who like species hunts then we nmust have caught well over 80 different corel reef fish (Only keeping a few for the table) This the best fish of the week a Popper caught GT of around 50lb. All the best Seanyboy Fishing Club Alegranza (UK)
  2. I don't know about big sole off the South Coast, but yesterday we went Plaice fishing on Dave Pitman's Atlanta out of Weymouth and had a suprise catch. One of our anglers Billy Verney's rod bent in half with what we thouhght was a big Turbot, however we were all suprised to see that he had landed an 8lb 4oz Halibut. Having not seen one before we were not sure what it was at first but after looking at the fish recognition book it was no doubt a Halibut. It was a great bit of angling skills from Billy as the fish fought all the way to the top and Billy was only using a 20lb trace, which after looking at the fishes teeth was even more impresive. See a picture of the fish at the following link http://www.deepsea.co.uk/boats/atlanta/mor...notes_board.htm This is thought to be the first recorded rod caught Halibut out of Weymouth and possibly the South Coast ??(Comments please???) What was a deep water fish doing in 20ft of water on the Shambles bank? Anyway, a first for Weymouth and a first for our newley formed, "Fishing Club Alegranza UK." All the best Seanyboy
  3. Hello, I go to Barbados maybe 1-2 times a year and do a lot of fishing there. This time of year is very good for fishing and the charter fleet target mainly Dolphin(dorado) and Kingfish(Wahoo). You can get on a Charter boat in Bridgetown near the Waterfront Cafe and a 4 hr shared charter is about £60. The problem with this is that it is not really enough time to get right out to the deeper water fishing grounds where the Marlin are. My best day out was with the boat Billfisher. However, I now go out with locals although when I go I am in a different area. Try going to the fish markets at Oistins or Bridgetown and ask for a day out with a local boat. They will try and charge you stupid money but but don't pay more than £30. Interesting day as they mostly hand line and if you do this take some gloves. Fishing off the beach/rocks is good first thing in the morning and just as it gets dark. Again the locals use hand lines but a good travel rod will get you some snapper etc. Use flying fish for bait or the white crabs you see on the beach. There is a tackle shop in Bridgetown called fisherman's corner, where you can get leads etc. Take some bubble floats as the bottom is really rocky in some areas. Hope this is useful Sean.
