The current thinking is if a 'tiddler' takes the bait we'll hang on for dear life and try and 'boat' it.
Anything that looks like we've just thoroughly annoyed it its a 'cut the line and every man for himself....'
Hey Phoo, what class of rod you going to be using for the porgies? Was thinking about getting a 30lb Euroboat, should the shark meet ever materialise, but would rather get the 20lb, as it would stand more chance of getting used occasionally. You think it would be up to the job?

prowler 4.5 elite owners beware when following the kayak uk site instructions for the trolley you will have to position the control line cleat more forward than they do, as it is impossible to reach the position inside the yak to fit the bolts where they fit it on the p13. I found this out after drilling the holes !!
Why is that? It's not easy on the P13 either, and only achievable with a ratchet spanner on the end of an extension (length of broom handle) nylock nuts are also helpful.
It's a bit of a rite of passage. I failed to do it, the first time, even with a friend helping, until I got the tool modifications exactly right; then I did it on my own (swells with pride)

Screen condensation is a common fault but should clear during use, OK Really replied to a thread on here or AnglersAfloat explaining the causes of the condensation and what can be done to reduce it.
Had a similar problem on my first old units, however the new Humminbird's I'm using with the smaller displays haven't shown any signs as yet.

Yeah, Mark it will clear with use. Mine used to do it a lot when I first had it. As you say, made it unreadable for a couple of hours on the water before it cleared (having the light on helped). So, I sent it back to the States to be exchanged and was without a FF for 6 weeks. When I got it back, it did exactly the same
Can't remember the last time I had the problem, now. -
I used to use home made 3mm bungee and velcro on one end and a shackle on the other, but I still found the bungee got tangled up with paddle leash and was generally a bit of a pain. I use the jetski leashes now and they are much better, but still a bit restricting at times, especially if you need to untangle something at the rod tip.
I was thinking one of those retractable dog leashes might be a better solution and I'll be checking that out when a jetski leash finally breaks. Whether the mechanism would stand up to salt water for very long, remains to be seen. But I've seen them for under a tenner on ebay, so would be worth a try.

Devon Exile - I've launched from Lulworth and headed up to Durdle Door but haven't made the full trip up to Ringstead and onto Weymouth - I'm sure I will at some point although would like to fish Lulworth Banks first.
Nice one Simon, hope to try a mini version of that when I've got the girlfriend with me on holiday. Must be great to just keep drifting down the coast and not worry about having to paddle back.

Think I'm going to have to start coming back down your way again soon, Hampshire seems to be fishing a lot better than Sussex at the moment. Fished Seaford/Cuckmere again this morning, 4am launch, loads of plugging hoping for another bass, then loads of ledgering with rag, squid and prawn, with nothing to show except a couple of wrasse. Dodging the fog banks around dawn was the best bit. Broke the tip of my rod too.

When you take a wazz from a drysuit standing up, you have to do it bending over to clear the zip, which only goes down to hip hight; whereas, when you're sitting in a yak you're already in that position and it's merely a case of getting the old feller out and filling the footwells. Easy peesy lemon squeezy (did you get the led zep reference? that's LED ZEP, not brass zip Clear?)

My Gull drysuit is so comfortable, and has a long front zip from shoulder to hip. Compared to my wetsuits, it gives me much more freedom of movement.
Took my first leak from the dry suit recently and was pleasantly surprised at how much easier it was in a sitting position than when I've paddled ashore to pee. No problem.

i did buy an anchor and some rope for my kayak, but have yet to use it! will i need to make a special system for the achor, or can i just drop it down and tie it to something?
It is best (for stability) to have the anchor going into the water from one of the two pointy bits. You need a pulley system for this. Here is one a lot of people use:

I would say a no no to using them on the sea, fine for lakes etc.
Would have thought renting one when you get there would be a better option all round.

OK, well I thought your joke was a good one, others may not agree, but then you can't please all of the people... However, I'm not happy about the insults because you've lost any cool points you might have gained from a funny post. Please don't do it anymore. You're obviously a bloke who likes a laugh and I'm sure we'd get on at a yak meet, but this is mainly a serious forum which does a lot to promote our sport and is highly valued by its members, which is why you've had some negative responses. What people are REALLY interested in is yak fishing, so if all you're going to post is p*ss takes everyone will soon get bored with you, and if you can't get with the programme as regards the level of politeness that is shown on here, you'll get booted off, which I think would be a pity.
Trying not to sound too much like your Dad here, but maybe chill for a while and then come back with a cracking post about fish you have caught eh?

A useful item and will in ideal conditions make a kayak show up on a big dot.
Wind up or not there is no place or need for a Radar itself on a kayak.

Have any of you chaps out there fitted radar yet, it seems the only optional extra that has'nt been considered. Mounting it would appear to be the prob as it has to be above eye level (radiation) and the possible un-balance.Lets throw this open for discussion????????????/

So, apart from fly, float and lure in shallower water, what other kinds of fishing is possible on the drift? Would you, for example, ledger by finding bottom and then wind in a couple of turns to avoid snagging?
