  1. No, his blog disappeared about the same time he joined Drennan. Whether those were connected, I don't know. I agree, a very good angler, good writer and seems like a very decent chap. I think he used to work at J&K in Bicester.

Presumably due to Drennan's zero tolerance policy of the internet! ;) (Is there any other company of Drennan's size that doesn't have a website?)

I've never seen Coarse Angling Today on sale up here, so I couldn't offer any comment on that, but I do distinctly remember actually hurling a copy of Coarse Fisherman into the bin a few years back after a particularly shameless and clumsy bit of product placement. The whole magazine just seemed so amateurishly put together that they didn't even have the wit to try and hide what was going on, which was a real shame as the contents always promised so much more than the other coarse fishing titles.

  2. Waiting for someone to invent a phone that goes, ring ring, when someone wants to talk to you and to send a text without a camera and with nice big screen and letters for us old fogies. :D

They already have, although I don't think they ever make into the Carphone Warehouse:

Actually, I kind of like the look of the Doro Easy Mobile Phone, which is so Spartan it doesn't even have text messaging!

  3. There are only four fish likely to be caught in UK waters that have venomous spines

    Greater Weever Trachinus draco

    Lesser Weever Echiichthys vipera

    Red Scorpionfish Scorpaena scrofa

    Sting Ray Dasyatis pastinaca

I remember my mum buying some Greater Weever from the fish stall at Romford market back in the mid-70s. While it quite clearly didn't kill us, I can't remember her ever buying it again, so I'm guessing it wasn't the greatest eating fish.

  4. What a lovely part of the world.

I've only ever driven over the Herault and that was 25 years ago, so I'm not exactly in a position to offer advice about that but I was a few miles outside Montpellier in Aigues-Mortes last summer and saw plenty of sporty looking carp in the canals around the Camargue. I was on honeymoon at the time, so I was not to be tempted on that occasion, but I have read about a guy who does guided fly-fishing for wildies in the Camargue, which is most definitely on my to-do list!

  5. Well, I've just had a letter back from the UK Border agency after sending them a letter asking for my knife back and explaing in it that the knife is NOT a flick/gravity knife and also enclosing a photo copy of a shop selling the knife online in the uk (one of many)as a example to show there not illegal here in the uk. They replied saying that the knife is illegal and any shops selling it in the uk are doing so illegally ! There not giving it back to me! If I want to continue I've got to get a solicitor and go to court in London ! To say the least I'm very

I wonder if they're having problems with the "friction grooved, tapered blade extension (or flipper) which aids opening the Cruiser, and then neatly completes the finger choil"? (From the description on Tacklebargains)

I can't see anything else they could possibly object to, provided you're not planning to take it down the pub with you.

  6. Thanks Guys! What I did was to use the PDF I got and imported that into my Serif x2 programme and from this I then imported it into my website programme. This then tells me that the fonts I need to complete the page are missing and these fonts are....... :) As the creature say SIMPLES!! NOT!!

I then of course find that as has been said (Didn't realise that it cost so much!!) The fonts are licensed!! SO I now know I need :

Euro Sans (Supposedly free from Adobe?) Well it is but it will not seemingly install!

    Gill Sans GOT IT!

    Times Got that too!

Stencil Standard Got that as well!

DAX!!! Extra and \medium. Different matter they were apparently produced for UPS?? So I just need to find a replacement!

But as always extremely grateful for all the replies!!

ANYONE know a good DAX salesman? I am NOT about to spend €40+ on a single font! :P

What are you going to do with these fonts once you've found them? It's all very well having them on your PC, but if anyone looking at the site doesn't have them too, then their browser will just substitute something else. Someone the other day was trying to explain to me some new way of doing it involving CSS and, I think, Javascript, but quite honestly, it was all way over my head. The bottom line though is that typography on the web is all a bit of a minefield. There's a world of difference between speccing fonts for print and for the web.

  7. Den, nobody is introducing otters!!

And no one has for over ten years now. Even then, there were only 117 released over 16 years in the whole of England.

According to the report on the BBC website, the lake had suffered due “damage caused by nine otters”. Now I’m no Terry Nutkins, but aren’t otters extremely territorial? So what are the chances of nine of them co-existing on the same lake?

  8. Agreed, but the guy is (generally) a well known and respected angler and has been fishing that venue for a number of years on and off. Don't like the style of fishing though - they often row out baits into areas of snags or around islands and fish over other 'obstacles'. Hence the necessity to get straight into the boat rather than actually trying to play it from the shore. Still it's horses for courses.

Interesting – I had no idea people fished like that. I must admit, as the story is clearly written up from an agency piece, I assumed it had probably just got mangled up in the retelling and that he'd most likely actually been talking about a bait boat or something.

  9. I you are using Open Office and someone sends you an email with an attachment in MS Word, would you be able to open it?

Yes. Or with a considerable number of other text editors too. Problems can be caused if they've gone berserk with tables and html and all manner of other nonsense, but even then, you can usually read it just fine – it just may not look exactly how they intended.

  10. The Mrs listed some nice Royal Dalton Cheese Knives on ebay.

ebay removed them, the mrs explained thay dont have a blade and are not even pointy.

They were re-instated, then a few days later removed again, gave up.

How bizarre. The cutlery section on eBay is, as you might imagine, full of knives, so why on earth could they have possibly objected to a set of cheese knives?!
