  2. When i used to be a canal angler chooped worm and caster on the far bank accounted for the bonus fish, mainly chub and roach but we are talking a while ago {Erewash canal} and if theres not much boat traffic maggot down the middle was the way to go and squatt and fine groundbait {a mate of mine always swore by sensas picarde}close in at 2.5 m wether this would work on your cut i dont have a clue but you dont say if your pole fishing or rod and line?

  3. Congrats ginge, mine was a monster gudgeon from the local canal { or it seemed that way}, i remeber i sat sulking until my dad took me down there { about 9 yrs old}, as my cousin was on holiday catching carp i was really really miffed as we both started at the same time and hadnt caught a thing between us, then this post card dropped through the door bragging about all these fish, so off i headed fibre glass float rod in hand and 1/4 of a pint of the finest mixed maggot money could buy on went the only float i had at the time and 20 minutes later under it went under yippieeeeeeeeeee my 1st fish! Needless to say i think the carp fishing spolit him, he doesnt go any more lol.

Or just unwilling to do something about them?

  6. Id say pole every time and go for the longest your money can stretch too, made the mistake yrs ago when buying my 1st pole and got a 11m shakespeare thing was always 1.5/2 m to short for the far side of the canal!

And try and get 1 with as many spare tops as you can, bought 1 earlier this yr for the uncle in law was a middy s2 12.7 and was mightly impressed as it only cost £150 and you got extras galore with it.

  7. Going to deepest Norfolk in march for my 1st wedding anniversary {the wifes letting me take my tackle, bless her} and the place where stopping at lakeside country club has a stretch of the Wensum running through the golf course was just wondering if any of you Norfolk folk could furnish me with any information? Cheers in advance :)
