  1. Long or short? Been talking to other anglers about there hair lengths {no perms aloud} but there mainly match fisherman so was after some other opinions really? would a 2"-3" hair work better when fishing for the likes =of barbel? or is a short 1 the answer? Any feedback would be appreciated.

  2. Orhow about using a fluro carbon hooklength or 1 of the other low diameter lines, i swear by the wb clarkes match team{old silstar} a lot more supple than drennan double strength and still has a little bit of stretch in it.

  3. Have to say its the same river steve i just seem to think the line is spooking the fish at the moment what with the clarity of the water so looks like flying backleads might be the answer but would they work as wellwith the rods pointed in the air? suppose another way would be to rig up with lead core or some of the esp sink tubing {why didnt i think of that earlier}

  4. I still wanna know if Rays a long lost uncle, they cant be that many pickards around in Nottingham and yes chav and ray were right it was just down stream of beeston im not saying how i fished it but needless to say had a shed load of small chub between 8ozs and 1lb a couple of decent ones and 2 lost barbel {targetted just shitty angling on my part} so ill be back again me thinks, one thing though its a bloody horrible walk at 3 in the morning and just my luck it started p***ing it down as i got out the car!

  5. having just recently got in to fishing for anything that swims :blink: {as opposed to match fishing} i have been pondering about back leading on rivers when fishing for barbel and chub, but how the hell do you use them? Whats the difference between a flying backlead and a straight forward backlead? And anything else that might be of use been looking on this site and others and cant seem to find a thing, people just assume you know what to do helpppppppppppppppppppppp lol.

  6. Was fishing a local stretch of the Trent yesterday {chavender knows where lol} and at about 12.00 3 gentlemen of rotund proportions turned up on the opposite bank to pike fish, after 5 minutes or so they started swearing and shouting at each other, next thing you know punches were flying rods being thrown and logs being brandished as weapons just a general free for all and guess what it was over? A packet of swivels! Things calmed down for about half an hr until 1 { christened the short fat b*****d by his freinds } caught a pike which they succesfully unhooked i hasten to add, i think the green eyed monster raised its ugly head or something because it started again, just like the chuckle brothers vs WWF the most entertaining days fishing ive had in a long time, but i still cant get a barbel what the hell am i doing wrong this year? Reckon a pair of boxing gloves might help?

  8. Been swimming twice this yr for pole sections and got them back both times needless to say once was when it was hailing and driving wind the water was warmer than the air tempurature or it bloody well felt it! And i landed the fish too {didnt leave it unattended, just resting on some reeds while talking to the missis on my phone} :P

  9. tried right under the lip and got wet feet in the process{damn my lack of waders} lost a few hooks and weights but still not a knock, lol must have been one of those days.

  10. Agreed Anderloo and its the cheapest means for children to start fishing a 3m or 4 m whip, rig, disgorger and bait costs about a tenner like to see some 1 set a child up with a rod and reel kit that costs that much, and whats more is its so simple.

  11. What a memeory gozzer i remember my humble gudgeon was old permanent peg 2 of the cothmany stretch of the erewash canal think it was on a red maggot {1/4 pint of mixed please} as for hook god knows but i seem to remember using woven crest "colin perry" hooks to nylon a lot in my youth normally a 16 lol

  12. Fished it yrs ago when the bream used to shoal opposite the "flats" our old club water used to be just behind the red scum stadium and after lady bay bridge, used to have some loverly roach fishing there on the stick float. As for jason Lee "he's got a pineapple on his head he's got a pineapple on his head!" some fishing forum ehh lol.
