  1. Simple question really fellas are the stonze weight system as good as the press say or are they catching more anglers than fish? Any feedback positve or negative would be great :)

  2. Was just gonna ask the same as dogfish depends what part of derbyshire your staying in, if your talking the peak district itself then a lot of it is fly but nearer to derby theres a ot on offer.

  3. The island at stoke wier is controlled by ashfield anglers if thats any help most of the rest down stream is notts aa as for how far upstream the barbel go id say all the way if your talking swarkstone end near burton river trent au natural

  4. If your local top nottingham simon your best bet is to join Noots AA or something like that, you get a lot of water for £35 a yr beeston weirfished very well early mornings last year for me lots of barbel and chub, you get all of the once famous rd stretch up to stoke wier and gunthorpe wier too {members only} which looks extremly good or did yesterday :P {no pun intended} as for victoria emabnkment give tim aplin a ring at matchman supplies being virtually on the doorstep he should know {the flats used to be the pegs but im going years back now}if you fancy a trip in the season drop me a line.:)

  5. Snap big tinca but mine was only 9lb 8oz :(

    P.s How many U.K rivers hold a decent head of catfish and salmon?

    P.p.s cant decide between a roach or a barbel :S

  6. Dont know if any of you lot out there can help but here goes, got a 150 gallon pond in the garden{with uv filter and pump}, and earlier this yr took the fish out to clean it noticing 2 carp and 1 shubumpkin {excuse the spelling} had rotting mouths {thats was the best discription} and 1 gold fish was bloated, to cut a long stort short went to the local aquatics centre for treatment and every thing seemed ok until this weekend, the bloated gold fish has suddenly aquired rows of black spots on its flanks and a couple on its head and 1 carp's tail and dorsal fin seems mor ragged than usual, is this any thing to worry about and is it treatable? if photos help give me a shout and ill try to catch em and take piccies thanks in advance

  7. Have to agree with you chaps on the state of the angling press in general all adverts and southern or peterbourgh based carp fisheries, only buy AT occasionally to read when im at work it kills 20 mins or so, as for the one with the beard hes a decent enough chap to talk too {when hes trying to sell you his wares} but have to agree the format of the entire publication needs looking at, move with the times my a**e! :yucky:

  8. DONT DO IT, i quit after working in a tackle shop for 5 yrs just needed some space from it i think, but it was the worst thing ive ever done 4 yrs with out catching a fish is a hell of a long time i can tell you, and the advancements all i can say is :blink: hydro elastics what are they lol {i know now} as my gran used to say use a bit of knicker elastic! Like the rest of the guys have said try joining a local club you might be suprised, can i ask though what sort of fishing do you do? Carp? Speci? Match or just plain pleasure? sometimes helps in choosing what club to join thats all any how good luck and dont do it!

  9. SO whats ya fave fishing book out there then ladies and gentlemen? Just thought id ask as ive just finished Chris Yates falling in again, and i have to say its at the top of my list. Theres no rig information or anything technical, just a great bloody read, really makes ya wanna get off ya behind and go wet a line {juast a shame i cant at the mo}

  10. Well done ginger the plac is virtually on my doorste and ive only ever fished it once, only reason being all the old timers put me off with storys about how good it used to be in the god old days, taking pillow cases of fish back home to feed the cat with, and how to make bread paste to catch em on, and why dont you sell porcupine quills any more i could go on but........................................................

  11. Its a strange world when some one says follow my advice :P another thing i forgot was fine tooth hacksaw chop either side of ya split and telescope them through each other got couple of sections like that my self doesnt sem affect th pole action just the length {damn that far side of the canal}

  12. spent a lot of time at Stoke and Beeston wiers last yr and had some good fishing but time of day played a factor for me after about 10.30/11.00 when the sun started shining the bigger fish went off the boil keep looking to fish at cromwell this coming yr but just do as the rest of th guys said, in 5 hrs i was using 3/4 pints of maggotts{mainly bronze,blme the match angler in me} and a couple of pints of hemp/pellets through a blockend feeder and had barbel to 9lb 8oz and chub nudging 5 hope this might be some help to you

  13. fun fish if its a no 3 section your better off buying a universal top 3 kit mate, but if ya local to notts and you ever do a big section i know a very good man who does carbon repairs at a cheap pice ( my old boss :P )
