  1. Will someone enlighten me and please tell me what a Shad is,as in bait. :help:
hi mate a shad is a small imitation bait fish that moves damn well when retrived slowly ,,,

but given the problems of translation ..ie durex & sellotape ,,i hope ive helped ,,,,any way mate happy new year,,,,,,,,,

  2. ive been using 14lb fireline braid coupled to a tapered carp shock leader.for beach work with a fixed spool for the ease & distance on my 17ft kt long rod for 2 years now ,,,never lost a thing yet ,,,,but the beachs are quite clean down here ,,,,,,,,use 10lb mono for spinning get two many wind knots for braid,,

  3. hi all ,,,,very interesting about the spine of the rod ,, ive heard that before but ignored it,,,,,i keep a penn surfmaster 70 in my box for those little emergencies & apart from being alkward to put on with coasters it works well on all my multiplier rods ,,,,

  4. hi mate ,,if your only guna use it on your holls ,try the 3 piece grauvell mg surf 450 . comes with a half decent fixed spool as well for 60 quid from veals ,,,,its the best 60 quid for a cheapy ive ever spent ,

  5. glen ,,phone penn cusomer service ,, they are a bit hit & miss at times but if you get the right person on the other end,, bingo ,, tip though mate allways keep the box & instructions ,, it will come in handy at some time .........

  6. ive got a old abu spinning rod i bought in 1969 & i still recon its more user freindly than the 100 quid carbon stuff ive tryed to replace it with ,,as for beach stuff i learnt on longbows ,,,,now there using long rods the same way ,, but back then you could catch school bass & flounders with out the need to cast far ....i draw the line at having to wear a duffle coat again though,,,,

  7. sounds like a pain and does take 60 seconds ,, but cut line above hook use bait needle to put worm on line then tie circle hook back on and drag worm back down ,,,,,,,,,easy peasy,,,,,dont know about the ray thing though,,,,,

  8. hi ken ,,nice to meet you ,,it was a nice evening , and you had fish ,,, should of told me you were starving i would have gone & got u sumit ,,,,let us know when your doing it again & ile fish with you ,,,,,and bring foooood,,,,,,,rich ,,,,

  9. hi mate ,, go up to keyhaven , about 2,3 miles east , and try the shingle bank but only on a tide going out trip,,,,,,,,but barton /tadiford ,,good as any where at pressent,,then theres allways southbourne if you want to travel 5 miles ,,,, rich,,

  10. hi ken ,,hopefully the sand will settle as well as it calms down ,, then its sole time ,,,,,,,,,,,take 2 kits though , 1 as far as you can chuck it ,,& 1 at 30 yds ish ,,,,,,,,,see yu ,,,,,,,,pp,,lucky rich ps if you go in on the bournemouth surf web cams you can see that spot,,,,,,,,,,,

  11. hi ken ..i live there ,, you can see the sand in the water ..its keeping the fish out , they dont like the grit in there gills ,,,,,,,ive got a k2 & use it with all sorts depending on side winds ect, ile come & find u on the 13 th ,,,pp lucky rich ,,,,

  12. hi elton get loads of wrasse in the rocks down our way ,,,,so i tryed full & half circle hooks & because of the weird current they still swallow them so ime back to fine wire jobbies so at least if i cut the line they have a chance ,,,,,lucky rich,,,,

  13. hi darlick ive often thought ,,if shops that sold tackle /bait ect handed out a small fact sheet with basic guide lines for the novice , like min sizes ect ,,,with every purchace ,,, it might help to stop things like this and would cost pence ,,,,,,,the cure is mostly in the prevention,,,,,,,cheers ,,,,,,,,,lucky rich ,,,,,,,,

  14. got to get some limits out there (with made in uk stamped on them) ,,no boats within a mile of shore ,,,then just gauge it ,,the bigger the boats the biger the distance from shore ,,that in my oppinion would help without getting to tecky....ohh and no jonny foreigner ,,,bit basic,,, but this is where it all starts ,,,plus its dead easy to keep a eye on,,,,,,,,, every body notices close in or big boats,,,,,,,
