  1. I suppose one could say that filling in the correct form to apply to keep the stuff salvaged is ok (I can find myself growing to that idea)

But sadly, many of the [Edited to remove a racist word - John S] that I saw in the Newspapers and on the TV news looked like they would'nt be able to string a sentence together, or read the documentation...and indeed had no other intentions bar vandalism and theft.

I suppose if people stay within the law, then I concede to your viewpoints, but those who dont should be hung out to dry!

  2. I am afraid that if you want to stop folks being grabbing selfish tossers you need to look deep into the heart of modern society. If you realkly look I think you will be horrified with what you see!

The antiquated law still works fine 99.9% of the time

You make some valid points, however this law is old, outdated and totally un-workable. (the same as our requirement to practise Archery on a Sunday!...Very useful skill in 1415! ...now Assault with a deadly weapon)

It is only because this situation has occured, that it is up for being scrapped, and that is a good thing imho.

The law side of it is the point, I may have been mis-understood there..I meant that it was not the point of my thread!

Finders keepers is Illegal it seems, in all but stupid Salvage Laws!

  3. Hear hear Nick. I too am getting a wee bit tired of uninformed people putting in their two bits worth about the Law of Salvage, when they know nothing about the topic.

Like I say. If it was your stuff washed up on the Beach, I bet you would be the first one calling the Police about the the Thieves robbing you!

The law is nothing to do with it! (and I am sure you are well up on Salvage Laws...lol... but for those of us with a life...we shall stick to what is morally correct)

This is about Not being a grabbing, selfish tosser!...Not some antiquated law passed when men wore powdered wigs, and were called Horatio!

  4. If you could trouble yourself, and come down off your high-horse long enough Nick, you may see that I am perfectly equated with the law thank you, and it is the outdatedness of the said law, that gives people the right to vandalise, and take other peoples property.

Well, no doubt when 'The Law' is changed to prevent such vulturistic behaviour by a bunch of "Grab what you can, and f***k everyone else" morons, they will finally get punished in Law, along with other crooks!

I am sure that if it had been your expensive Tackle, or your personal effects that these [Edited to remove a racist term - John S] were rifling through...then you would want 'The Law' to stop them?...Or are you one of the "All property is theft" mindset?... In which case, you would no doubt be more than happy to give everything you own away?

Just because it is Lawful, does not make it right!

  5. Well, I work with several large companies, as an IT Support Technician.

NONE of them use W/Less for the reasons you rightly give!

Ok for a home enviroment, provided that you have NO sensitive info on your PC's....but I agree, wired is by far the best.. but well dodgy otherwise!

  6. http://eursoc.com/news/fullstory.php/aid/1...age_Rights.html

Personally I believe that it is our 17th Century stupid Maritime laws that need to be changed!

This is common or Garden Theft / Looting and Vandalism, and the purpetrators should be arrested and Charged!

If you did this at a Plane / Train / Car/ Lorry crash site.....it would be time for the book to be thrown!

    whats the difference?

Those involved should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

They are leeches and enviromental vandals, and I hope they get what is coming to them!

  7. Where are you Fishing Squiffy, Killie Lake, Big Waters, QEII Bolam?

I started off all of my fishing up there, but moved to Knt more years ago than I care to remember.

    Tony

    Hi Tony

Killie is a No-No now sadly (I think they had a big Pike wipeout there)

They did so @ QE2 as well...but I believe it has been re-stocked.

I actually do a fair bit of Piking @ Sweethope Loughs (been opened up to Piking during the winter) but nothing big reported (yet!)

And Bolam is good for a laugh!

Scotland is the mainstay though! (I am from down south, and moved up here!...So one leaves...another arrives!)

    Tight lines m8!

  8. As in the recent topic winter pond fishing we discussed the methods to get the roach feeding and how to improve catch rates.

The main consensus of opinion (and quite correct) is regular accurate feeding of small amounts and fishing light. This is great for the roach but I have one lake I visit occasionally that has a very good head of quality roach and lots of carp.

For some reason the carp seem to feed in the coldest of conditions. You can fish for roach for about 2 hours and have great fun then the carp move in and they seem to be lining up to take your bait.

I am running out of idea's to avoid them.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

    john

    I agree.

Carp make such bad Livos, that catching quality Roach of the 1/12 - 2lb mark to stick on snap-tackle can become a real problem!

  9. Hi Andy,

Yes...there is something special about bringing a youngster into the wonderful world of Angling.

7yrs old is still a 'tiny' bit young for the patience levels to have evolved to the required levels methinks. (But hey....nowt wrong with a good Sniper Rifle!)

But the fact that you take him is great, and the bug may well have already bitten your young Nephew (as it did mine)

I did my first all-night session with my son last summer...he was 8 yrs old then, and loved it...So not long to wait!!!

Here's wishing you and him tight-lines, and many great stories to share in the pub with his/your mates! :P

  10. I was just reminded of this incident which happened with my Young Nephew (well, he is kicking 30 now) but the story starts when he was a young 'trainee' angler of just 8-9 yrs old.

I had got him interested in angling when he was a mere spawner of 5 yrs of age.

We used to go to the local pond (called Slines Oak...nr Caterham Surrey) and spent many sun-filled afternoons catching small Crucians, Commons and the odd Perch, and wiling away the hours chatting about Fishing.

As with all youngsters, he was keen as mustard to learn 'How big the biggest Carp in the World is' and 'can a Pike eat a dog' (you know the kinda stuff)

Well, I soon moved away from Surrey, and my Nephew continued to fish (his long suffering Mum used to drive him to the pond, and have to sit for several hours whilst he got tangled up, snapped Rod-Tips etc.) but both showed great patience.

I looked forward to his excited phone calls as I sat in my Student pad at Northumbria University.

One particular occasion, he phoned and was VERY excited indeed (even more than normal!)

"I have caught a MASSIVE Carp....My mum was here too, and she saw it" he yelled down the phone..

    "Fantastic" I replied

"Another fisherman came and weighed it for me" he quipped with continuing relish!

    "Wow!....How Big?" I asked

    " 6Lb 7oz" He whooped!! :clap2: (which for Slines Oak was a near Record!..lol)

" Thats absolutely great mate...I am so pleased for you!" I said

Once he had calmed down a little, we continued to chat, and he mentioned in passing, that he had caught a Perch too

    "Nice one" says I

" I told the other Fisherman I had a Perch in my Keepnet, and he said should we weigh that too?... And I said yes ok.....But it was smaller than my Carp...It was only

    3lb 14oz!!!!!!!!

I dont remember much after that!....But I believe I probably fainted!!

  11. Non Existant! :schmoll:

I have tried loads of wholesalers to get hold of a couple of their products.

Glasgow Angling said they would phone me back last monday.

    Never did.

I have emailed Berkley and their main UK distributor.

    No Reply.

    Absolute Joke.

Shall not be using their products again :yucky:

  12. I do both on the Broads, and as an angler I try to appreciate the points of view of the other side, so to speak, and vice versa. Unlike the canals we have the added charms of sailing boats and tides, 'tis real boating down 'ere!

There needs to be give and take, and understanding. For example we sail an old Broads yacht, and like anglers, we need to use the tides to best advantage. We were slipping along the River Waveney, close to the windward bank, dodging the tide, when, all of a sudden there was a great deal of abuse from between the reeds, "boats have got the whole effing river to use etc etc etc, why don't we effing stay in the middle of the effing river, effing yachtsmen." Well, I'm not the smallest of blokes, (unless you are talking Budgie or Newt then I'm a tiddler), we weren't going fast so my daughter took the helm and I jumped ashore. The angler backed off but when I pointed out that I too was an angler, we got to talking. He now understands that boats have a right, and a need to use the whole river on occasions, that like him we are influenced by the tides, and had I seen him I would have pulled out into the tide, that I wouldn't intentionally run over his tackle, that he should have been tending his tackle, and watching his effing language.

That angler now knows why sailing boats do what they do, that they have to tack, that they have to avoid the tides etc. Most of the problems come out of ignorance. I don't think any Broads boater would intentionally target an angler, but many of them don't know why anglers do what they do.

We can live together on the water, we just need to understand each other better.

Oh... So it was YOU eh?:D

  13. A bit of common sense on both sides is usually all it takes.

I grew up fishing The Thames, and boats were an everyday occurance...Yes, I have had the odd run-in with selfish boaters (and more selfish canoers!!!)

But generally, a quick wave or a "Good Morning" resolves most meetings amicably.

(lets not forget that Fish aint bothered by boats)

Enjoy your boating Janet, and if you ever go past where I am fishing...a cheery wave, and a "Hello" is awaiting you!

  14. I think you guys have misinterpreted me. I was merely pointing out that Eastern Europeans (and French, and several other European countries) have a CULTURE whereby catching and eating Carp is commonplace.

There is talk of them doing the same here, and I would want to know what to do if I saw someone catching and eating coarse fish.

(I have no idea where the rascist discussion came from, and some of the comments seem like they have been posted in the wrong thread!)

  15. Hello,

I just wanted to know what we are supposed to do if we see someone catching Carp/Pike etc and knocking them on the head, with a view to eating them (Eastern European style?)

Please, no silly "Punch his lights out" crap

I just wanted to know if the Police should be called, or the EA...If it is say, a public day ticket water?

Hasnt happened to me yet, but I wanted to know what the law is (I assume they wouldnt have a License!?)

    thanks

  16. "Well....It started off with just a few Maggots with my mates....but it wasnt long before {sniff} I started wanting to experiment with Worm too.

I thought i would be ok {sniff}....but my habit got worse.

My Girlfriend left me when she found out I was 'doin TP'.......those Trout Pellets really screw you up!....But.... I can 'andle it!'

ARE YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW INVOLVED IN BAIT ABUSE?

If so, call the national bait helpline!!
