  1. Ive just come back from Cornwall - the local news were full of reports of two Portuguese man (men ?) of war being found at St Ives ( Porthmeor beach ) one dead but one very much alive and swimming (or do they just float) now in Newquay aquarium. Apparently plenty more on the way ! Beware !

    Hi prowler long time.

not been down to halcot place lately then, full of the blighters...

  2. Been away a while so hello all.

I have after many many good years of service decided my reals need to be replaced.

    question is what with?

    recomendations (not gold plated) for

1 fixed spool for spinning and beach work

1 x mulitpier for same and boat work

    help appreciated

hello to the Jersey beans will have to have a bash very soon. If tide no good the beer.....

  3. Jonsok - it is you who must thnk.

I know you are working along the lines of "the more lights the better" - but actually NO.

Light patterns are used to identify different situations - if you see a double white light above a white light and either a green or red (depending on which way she is travelling) followed by a single white light and then another single white at the same height - do not go between them, it is a vessel towing another.....

Red is for PORT and Green is for Starboard - stick Stbd up in your window and why will you get a knock at the door?

A SINGLE WHITE ALL ROUND LIGHT depicts a small vessel - it does not identify what kind of small vessel, it doesn't need to. All you need is to be seen - ONE bright all round white is fine and actually will be more easily seen and identified than a set of multicoloured lights which is more likely to be confused with something ashore if you are in a harbour environment.

If you have a masthead white and headlight or handheld more powerful torch that is all you need. If you see a vessel approaching it is perfectly acceptable to AUGMENT your single white with a flash of your torch on the water - DO NOT POINT IT AT THE APPROACHING VESSEL - YOU WILL BLIND THE WATCHKEEPER AND RUIN HIS NIGHT VISION. Shine your torch along the foredeck or hold it high and shine is down on you and your kayak - don't be surprised if a searchlight scans you to fully identify what you are and what you are doing. This is fine, it means they have seen you.

Thank you simon thought for the moment was going mad, we spent a lot of time on this before pity people do not seach and read.

  4. You can buy them for the yak, so they must get used ;)http://topkayaker.net/TopKayakerShop/index...products_id=168

As the site and quote "While a steady white light or hand held flashlight is all that is commonly required of kayakers, navigation lights add to your visibility. Check your local boating rules for more info."

This is the from the US not UK. Remember Nav lights are for information of what you are, and confusion can create accidents.

  5. Ahhh.I see you only have 10 posts.Your either a TROLL or from a rival company :whistling: Just goes to show you know Jack s*** about Kayaks though

Loosing your cool, in that manner only reinforces the bung poing of view. Then again George and zippy from memory were were controled by someone elses hand, and they bungled around.

PLus it does not matter how many posts people have. Seems you gang thought you had the biggest conkers in the play ground. shame they were only acorns.

And i thought this site liked criticism. remember in posts gone by someone got a red card for coments like you have just made.

  6. With you now !.....If it's a good fart the belt helps you appreciate it by allowing a slow release

    Dave :)

OMG the mind boggles at the thought, and theres me just finished a Balti. two belts required tonight and nail down the douvet.

  7. Uh? Just giving my two penneth to the thread , and applauding Neils brother for having the balls to actually try it ....if thats allright with you.

    Dave

i agree mate just having a laugh, have you read neils post?

  8. Excellent test....did your brother have a wading belt on ?

As a fly fisher for many years, the one thing you must wear when in waders is a wading belt, it can slow the amount of water that enters them when you go under ....seen quite a few people stumble while wading, and a couple that have gone under while wading deep. The wearing of a wading belt stops the sudden rush of water into them, you still get wet though.

On some of the US sites they recomend waders for Kayaking , both neo and breathable, if used with two belts and a good dry top.

    Dave :)

Dave do we need anothe rwarning such as neil posted, how many farts does it take to give more bouyancy?

  9. There are a number of us here who have been interested in Kaskazi kayaks for some time and they are now available.

May be so, and saying so is ok but i feel that stating who will sell them is a sales pitch and if they wish to sell then their is a way of doing it without using a forum like this, may be Agent might just wish to place a sponer link on the forum instead of posting as such. But how nuch would that cost?

We can all make our own mind as to who and were we purchase items and post links to sites that assist.

  10. Rumour has it that a limited number of composite 'super kayaks', the updated Dorado and Pelican will be reaching UK shores next week. Competively priced against the more expensive plastic sit on tops these kayaks come rudder enabled as standard.

On many international kayak fishing forums, the Kaskazi Dorado and Pelican kayaks are highly regarded fishing kayaks. I'm sure a few of us here have taken more than a passing interest in them, myself included.

For further details contact forum member and UK Kaskazi Agent, Simon Everett (who is unaware I am starting this thread. I wanted to help him and other members here out. So far on this forum we've had a presence from Malibu, Hobie and Ocean Kayak, why not Kaskazi too? :) ).

another sales technique, can this forum please be resticted to none sales or assosiated posts for the promotion of sales and deal with the issues requested.

  11. just got these on ebay, i need to think how to mount them(more pvc pipework). should be alright for these long dark winter sessions. £9 including p/p, anyone know if i can change the bulbs to LED'spost-8171-1161462231_thumb.jpg

please read the previous exaustive post on Navigation lights.

You only need the white, unless you are going to add an outboard or full rigged sail to your yak. If you are please add images for our amusement.

  12. Just bought a Yuasa 12v 7ah SLA battery today (£10.50)

What i want to know is,

Is it ok to lay it on it's side in the kayak?

and if i keep it in a sealed container does the container need to be vented?

    Many thanks Tom

after 20 years experiance in lead acid batteries and Yuasa, the recomendation is to have the battery in the upright orientation.

they will still work but with experiance it pays to follos the rules.

Please note that this applies to the charging position.

constantly check the battery for deformation, i.e. swelling as this will show signs of overcharge and cell degregation.

Yuasa is my prefered brand and manufacturer though people do use yucel, from tried and tested experiance these are far poorer quality cells and the charge held fails more.

As the previous comment allways ensure the right charger is used.

  13. I have been in contact with IS and Johnson Outdoors been in contact with me.The problem is being sorted as we speak hopefully, maybe I was a bit rash in my first posts but you can understand my anger .I will not say no more until the final outcome :)

Hope all goes well for you if you still need the local melitia just shout.

  14. With Xmas looming, it seems a good time to upgrade the seat for my P13.

I've been looking at the Seairsports High Back seats on the Hook 1 website. Looks good.

I was wondering if anyone has got one and, if so, what your comments would be ?

Any other recommendations for high back seats ? ....I want as much back suppport as possible.

    Thanks.

    tried MFI?

  15. Somerset- do you mean discounts on the Bics etc?

RayJ- when my Dad takes his car in for a service, he gets a permanent marker, and puts a small dot on filters etc in a specific place, to ensure that they are changed (you would be amazed.. especially in Jersey).

Maybe you could try that with your existing kayak before you give it back?

By the way, anyone been out recently?

No they had them on the Oceans as well.

15% saved a small fortune on tackle.

And no haven't been out since last time but will be if we keep getting some calm nights. plus looking a taking some overdue holls so am checking the tide so i can pick the best week.

  16. I'm going in tomorrow to complain as its the 2nd one now.....I will be getting my bro to test it first, just to make sure, but i'm pretty confident Im not at fault.

As for getting a new one soon...i doubt it.....my bro been waiting almost 8 weeks and theres still no sign of it.

Its a pity the iron Stores dont let you take it to the marina to test it........

shout loud and long. Wonder if they buy them through Johnson outdoors?

  17. If this forum is anythink it has a direct link to NZ. So as long as the supplier bought it through the UK you should see a new Kayak arriving on Condor soon.

Complain big style mate. Was in Iron Stores on Sat and noticed the major discounts on the NOC kayaks.

    Bad show...

  18. never tie the wader tight. when you go in (if) they will fall down with the weight of the water. remeber not to struggle as this makes things worse. As has being said try the recovery out in a safe place. you will find out how every thing works. And beleive me practice makes perfect And if you can take a life saving course it help.

My son has recently received a comedation from the state for saving a boys life whilst being on a safety boat in jersey. ANd i can only say that all that work and toil on training and the Sea Cadets paid of. I would never have beleived that he would be able to carry out the Heinlick (?) manouver in open sea but he did. Thanks to the Sea Cadets and the St Johns ambulance for training. You never know when you may need it. And as my son says i just did what i new and that was it.

    That says it all..

    a VERY proud dad
