  3. Hi there Charles hope you are both well, will be over your way on tenth of march me and a few mates coming to sample a few pints of the black stuff and nail a few pike will call in.

Had a good day saturday 16 stone, would have done a lot better if we had not been worried by three seals they had a ball on last two lines could not get a fish over side, every fish had a bite out of it or just a head left on hook, had a couple of nice thorn backs.

Away tomorrow just a small day taking D C to show him how to go on with a line he has just bought a bucaneer 16 with a licence nice little boat.

    regards Andy

  4. they would have been more fun on a rod and line ;):whistling:

We had a good few on rod and line while waiting for long lines to fish it was good fun.

it should be a good weekend with smaller tides krysb so get at em nice bit of mussel and squid cant fail :)

  5. Guys its always Hard this time of year, and this time every year someone asks the same question whats happend to the fishing.

    It will be allright :D

Darlick hit a hot spot that happens as well.

I must have hit two hot spots i had two lines set two miles appart and they both fished well , a mate of mine off whitby is doing better than us, as i see it the east coast is on big hot spot lets hope it continues :)

  6. hi mate

was that you that come along side malc in the orkney?? with some bonny cod on board?

i crew for malc on sea spray, so hopefully see you out there again soon

we struggled for a few, but the tides seemed really odd?

one minute there was nowt, then it came barreling through, only to die 2 1/2 hrs before it was due to.

we tried all manner of baits, but none seemed to fish that well.

must be the scent trail of 400 hooks going in at the same time that makes the difference.

anyway, hopefully off this weekend to try something different.

    cheers

    krysb

That was me Krysb we found fish to be off a bit at back of ground edge there was a few fish on the inner hard ground but only small codling and strap ling.all good fish came out of broken ground at back of ground edge it would be worth having a go this weekend with tides easing, fish had a lot of velvet crab and still loads of pipe fish inside them.i picked a nice eight kilo halibut up in same place a week ago that was nice to see, that would have been a good scrap on a 12 lb maximus .

will maybe see you this weekend if you get down this way tight lines.

  7. We were out on sat + sunday off robin hoods bay and the fish do look like they have dissapeared.

only had a few with the biggest touching 6lb

tried just about every bait known but no favotite came to lite

    it was bl**dy hard work

never mind, back out this weekend to try something different

    cheers

    krysb

I was out off Robin Hoods Bay on saturday set four hundred hooks baited with plain old squid and had twenty stone of nice codling biggest around fifteen pounds fish is there and plenty of it.

Saw big cod and malc out there.

  8. Yes andrew mark held the that good cod when you came past me on the boat in the harbour on friday i was just finishing off washing down looked a really nice fish great to get them in the shallow water on the light gear i was uptiding mon and tuesday last week and had around 50 codling each day the best might have gone 8lb but the signs look good for this winter once the herring spawn has gone it looks like a big winter for cod, i am down your kneck of the woods tonight fishing our club match there was a nice easterly movement this morning but it has dropped off through most of the day but there is a nice bit of colour in the water so i am haveing a go down bay side tonight might have to wait till you can reach the kelp to start getting the codlings but you never know as soon as it gets dark they might appear on the scaurs.

    paul.

heard that one lad had ten codlings off bay wall one day last week and there has been one or two small bass down ness side one of the lads out of bay had a small net set down there and had some nice codling its clear down there at moment so you should be ok

  9. Some of the guys who came fishing with me asked me to post this report up on the anglers net as they often look on this site .

Last saturday the clay cross angling club had there monthly trip out on sea-otter 2 and as most of there trips this year have been very good on this on they managed 2 fish over 20lb plus the best cod going over 16lb and all of thses fish were caught inside of 4 miles from the shore but a few miles to the south of whitby on one wreck except the cod which came of some very rough ground which i fish on the small tides it consists of some big ledges and will often throw out the odd cod around the 20lb mark this ground is only 3.2 miles from the shore again just to the south of whitby .

Freds cod which fell to squid .

    3milecod.jpg

Pets ling fell to a shad.

    3mileling.jpg

Daves ling fell to squid and mackeral.

    3mileling1.jpg

    regards

    paul.

Nice fish paul we had a cracking day on friday Braimy and i just off bay some nice fish to biggest 16 lb but a lot in four to six bracket weather looks good for a good few days so hope to get out again need a boat without a licence orkney longliner anyone got one for sale .

  10. [Thanks for the promt reply Carl.

I did not take it as a moan but a true record of the trip, I am well aware you are made of more resilient stuff, had forgotten the name but of cause it was Harry.

Packing up fishing for such people will only lead to one thing and he ain't ready for a box yet!!

Please pass on my regards and best wishes to Harry, I had forgotten the second part of the T shirt.

Re the Chieftain, when earlier in the year we were in the U.K visiting family I booked on the boat but the weather was against it, must try again next year.Yes most of us enjoyed evenings on the patio relating fishy tails and taking the odd libation, GREAT MEMORIES.

Last winter we went to see our son in Kev's country, we sat on jettys and caught small Snapper and Brim, I also hooked a couple of Sting rays which I do'nt thing even realised they were hooked and of cause the enevertable happend.Must drop you a P.M when the system allows.

    Tight lines.

    Paddy W

Hi paddy w you may have not got a trip on chieftain but you managed a day on Phoebe, and what a fine day we had it was good to see you and glad we managed to get to sea and even better to catch some nice fish will be over your way next week so dont eat all those pepper smoked macs.

    regards Andy

  11. Lumpsucker we get loads in nets they very rarely die in net nine times out of ten they go back alive they vairy a hell of a lot in colour a lot to do with the enviroment they live in usually found in among kelp and get a too fair old size.lump fish eggs are collected and eaten.they lay there eggs in the back of scars in holes close to low tide mark.there was a lot washed up after last storm they are not real strong swimmers and can get caught out by summer storms.

  12. We had a gill netter down here a while back ..80 yds out every 2 days for about 2/3 weeks , i phoned all the relevant people ,,no joy ,,,even used the health & safety angle for swimmers ect,,, i watched 1 morn & they had all the 3lb bass that seem to be missing now arround here ,,,,,, still every cloud has a silver lining ,,,,the storms ripped the whole lot up one day & destroyed them on the local groynes ,,,, haa haa.... see there is a god ,,,,,,

Dont laugh to soon groyn bandit there maybe an insurance god.and the fisherman may return with longer deeper gill nets.

Maybe is old ones were were a bit tatty full of seal holes past the sell by date. he would have known the weather was turning if it was good gear he would not leave it.

  13. Has the sea flattened off up there yet? I've been cleaning my tackle down earlier on tonight in eager anticipation of the £1500 that is up for grabs :1a:

Yes sea fine mr motorola water clearing nice, forecast not to bad for next few days bit wet wind mostly south west lots of codling and macs about.

Challenge and i were out just before the northerly blow and had a good day plenty small codling between three and six pound the odd bigger fish among them avoid multiple rigs to get through macs i would go for five to six inch shad or single jigger to pluck the better fish out challenge had best fish on a five inch orange storm shad, good luck

  14. Andrew dont mention jet on here you will soon need a licence to collect it and you will be limited to 2 peices a day.

Paul wish i had a licence to fly one, then when the weather was bad i could shoot off to a warmer climate where the sun always shines and the water is clear blue.

Just up off beach swell is droping nice breeze from west lets hope we get a spell of settled weather for next week or two.

Any tips for your anglers for festival,

  15. Don’t tell me there your pots I can see washing about among the swell? :headhurt:

    Bloody commercial fishermen. :wallbash: :wallbash

No john mine are well a back of those.

Think they are gibs not sure, may need you to jag the anchors out yet mick may struggle a bit you should be able to talk them out

  16. Andrew the small tides are in our favour but they are now on the up i think inside of 5 miles will be a wipe out for a week or so it looks like it might be a wall job for a couple of days but we will never know till we get to sea i know all my lads who are with me in the festival are all buzzing it looks like it will be radio silence for a couple of weeks.

A bit to far for my little boat paul, just come off beach been down to ravenscar on my quad wind fell away now. nice down there good for jet had four pound last two days.

you should be down there with your rod nice swell coming in and beach is cleaner than would be expected.was a tad worried about my pots but they are still there where i left them, swell should fall over night should get out thursday for damage check.

  17. Go for a 4 Stroke, they are far better now than the old mixing job with oil..I think over the years I have had all the models from Seagull..and alot of fast rev engines on 2 stroke ..but the new 4 ones are alot better..we had a air cooled outboard ,for launching off the beach, netting in winter it was the ****s..think it was a tomatsu or something,,not seen one for years but you could have it on tick over the prop was still and away you went...looked at diesel ones aswell but the price..think a 10hp was about £3000

I have a new jhonson 9.9 hp four stroke and its the best motor i have had, no messing about mixing petrol, cleaner running much better petrol consumption used to use twenty litre of petrol a day with 9.9 hp two stroke now its down to six litre.

Only thing i would do next time is add electric start,

Four stroke for me any day.

  18. Pardon me for sounding daft then Darlick.....but the smaller the tide the less movement in the water , hence settle down quicker??

you have it that and a bit of west wind does the trick providing the swell falls away soon it should be clear in a few days.

dont want to scare all the anglers away just before festival with negetive thoughts.

  19. I had a look from the cliff top 1 hour ago and it is not a nice sight the sea is big and the water looks coloured out to 3 miles not only with the fresh water but what the swell has stired things up as well it couldnt have happened at a worst time whitby has nearly 200ft of water at 3 miles and it looks like we will have to go aback of 12 mile to get some decent clarity with the water.

Paul only small tides wind falling back in west tomorrow should clear in a few days sunday looks ok.

With a bit of luck that low to the west wont strenthen it looks to be weakening all the time.

  20. No I cannot say I have Andy. Are you sure it was not Arnold locker? Impersonating the real enemy?

A pity you did not get any pictures, it just goes to show that seals are bloody healthy killing machines, take a bit of knocking down, one of them.

I tell ya john it was like one of those wild life films great to see pitty for the porpoise but thats nature i suppose my lad was gob smacked he first thought it was a shark.

  22. B)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Norm B @ Jun 11 2007, 06:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->:clap2: Manchester and Birmingham are a bit slow. :clap2:

It never stops to amaze me, when ever the name chieftain and fishing reports come up every body starts catching loads of fish.

I remember an inshore skipper telling me a few years ago that we only had to steam (chieftain) through the inshore angling fleet on our way offshore, and amazingly boats would suddenly start reporting that they where getting loads of fish? :clap2::clap2::clap2:

John where you been mate. iv been out last two days yesterday me and son rayan tons of fish mate,

today mike and myself same again three at a time its mad.

Get your rod out will give you a shout.

  23. Fishing off robin hoods bay with my son about half a mile off the shore,we were haveing a real good day my nine year old son ryan had just landed a nice codling about ten pounds, and all of a sudden there was a mighty explosion of water about thirty feet away and all we saw was a big black shape in among the spashing then all went quiet for a short time and then about a hundred yards a rather large bull seal popped up and what looked like a large salmon in its mouth a few shakes of head and the gulls arrived for the feed there was bits of flesh flying always .

we sailed over to see the what seal was eating and i was shocked to see that the seal had killed a porpoise.

never seen this before has anyone else.

  24. Hi Darlick I resent that comment. I brought this up to illustrate that it has been said before irrelevent of who by and if you read the topic you would notice on more than 1 occasion I supported the argument of your friends last summer. It is not an attempt to force an argument or resurface any bitter feelings of the past, I like you would rather see that left where it is - in the past. I think your way off the mark there.

Glen was not having a go at you,i remember the thread and all that went with it.

Just think it would have been better left where it was.

As for the cod fishing it does seem to be on the up we have been seeing good numbers of cod now for the last two years on the inshore marks lets hope that it continues to improve.
