    turbot - about 4oz !!!

    minnow 45lb 6oz !!

    crabs - plenty !

  2. My first fish was a roach of about 4oz caught from the river Blythe underneath a railway bridge, struck so hard that the fish flew out over my shoulder and bounced off the bridge (v.sorry but I was only about four and just got overexcited about my first bite, tend to look after my catch a bit beeter than that now!). Funny though thirty years on and I still remember every little detail, but have forgotten catching numerous big carp since then, says something about this carp game doesn't it, you can end up just being a fish catching machine rather than a pleasure angler ! Move over carpin, kayaking is the future !!!!!

Budgie, Bitterwell, thats just outside Bristol isn't it, remember cycling up there with a rod and creel on my back when I was at Uni, caught my first double from there... Is it still a fishery ?

  3. Anderoo,

Do you reckon there's any like that in States its the right sort of water, plenty of sliver stuff etc ? That said, the last three days have been really autumnal up here so I reckon the piking session should not be too far off now. Doing propbably my last carp session on Guys this weekend before I take up Yaking for the winter....................................

  4. Hi,

I agree with Rob, use the base flavouring in the receomended amount.

I have never understood this principle of drying out baits then putting the flavour back in, what's the point. It could have come from a technique known as overflavouring which is simply adding neat flavour to freshly rolled baits to replace the flavour lost during the boiling which I totally understand and is the technique employed when I roll my baits. As to drying out the flavour and putting it back in it

If you have any questions about bait making try Simon at Quality Baits (01675 481726) he knows his stuff back to front, make sure you have some specific questions though and know what sort of answer you want.

    Hope this helps......

  5. Margin Master - come anyway, I'll kit you ou with a kayak for the weekend - and all the peripherals. Just don't break it!

I'll put it oin my diary Martin - that is provided I am invited.

Simon does this offer still stand ??? if so I'll send my cheque.

  6. Well this year is going to be a BIG NO for me, having had two really poor winters in a row (hardish syndicate which shuts down cos no other idiot fishes it, the bait stops going in the fish stop moving) I'm going to buy a Kayak and go Piking on the Avon and Severn. I'll change Forums for the winter !!!

  7. I'm not getting my Yak till december (redundancy payment not till then), bloody shame as I have loads of pike tackle rods reals etc which you lot could have borrowed. Still guess this won't be the only trip arranged.

  8. Rich,

Well done mate, as you say everyone has to start somewhere. Tell me if the line didn't break, where did your set up fail and what rig were you using and we'll see if the guys on the forum can help. I know the feeling though, I lost one of my target fish at the net, my fishing buddy effectivley pushed it off, there's nout you can do (apart from landing all your on fish !!) but get on with it.

Here's to your first double, let us know when you catch it.....................

  9. Folks,

I'm definatley up for it but won't have my own a kayak until DEcember, so if its arranged before that, if I came along do you think one of you would allow me to have a taster for a short while in one of your Yaks...???

  10. Mark,

Absolutley, that was a really good post, the appetite is even whetter now.

So what did you have to purchase to get your self started and roughly how much did you need to shell out. Having has a quick look I can imagine :-

Where can you get a licence from ?

    Kayak £400 ish ?

    Paddle £60 ish ?

    lifejacket £60 ish ?

    Wife £ A fortune !

    Thanks in advance

  11. Hi,

Although classing my self as a carp angler for the last 16 years, I have been reading the Kayaking topics with inetersted and am thinking about giving it a go, but living 3 miles frokm the centre of england means that I can't get to the sea that easily. I was wondering if anyone uses the method on rivers, whether its legal what equipment you would need to start out etc. I can see me working my way along the severn or warwickshire avon trolling for Pike perch and Zander. Can anyone help ?

  12. Folks,

I know there have been topics on imigrants taking fish for the pot, and I have just read with interest the topic on trapping eels which indicated that a licence was required. So the question is when Hugh FW trapped eels on the stretch of the rother at the bottom of his Garden he did not mention obtaining a licience (not saying he did not have one) and when he took grass carp from the landlords estate lake, transfered them to the rother to clean for a week probably without EA permission, what sort of message is he giving out to our eastern european friends. And all on a prime time TV show.

    What do you think....

  13. Superb mate, can see you really enjoyed yourself. Had a blast on Brasenose 1, got there about 2pm Saturday fish crashing everywhere, by the time I had got the third rod in the other two had gone off and it just stayed like that, hectic mental action, ended up not getting time to set the bivvy up and after 27 fish including a nice 20 and some cracking takes (real belters having to jump on the rod a number of times before it got airborn) packed away at 7.00 am Sunday and was back in Brum for breaky. Still looking forward to the Piking. S.
