  1. Offside rule?

I've had it explained to me several times, usually with animated props such as salt and pepper shakers and cutlery and strange looks from the restaurant manager.

    I still don't understand it...but then I'm a woman, I don't need to! That's your job...

Just so long as we have some eye candy, we ain't bovvered!

Sod the footie and the tennis....where's the Rugby? Now that is a game for REAL men...they don't go crying to their mummies every time someone kicks them on the shins...

  2. I just hope that isnt the attitude of the forum.

I think you'll find the rest of us more welcoming!

We're very accommodating on here...jeez, we even have women that fish!

  3. Don't know if this is relevant, but I'm having problems too!

Firefox keeps on hanging...at the bottom of the screen it says either "transferring data from ilapi.ebay.com" or "waiting for ilapi.ebay.com" - I don't know what this is all about?

When I go into Task Manager to try and end the damn thing so I can start again, it shows two unresponsive sessions of Firefox running, although I only have one open.

Any of you techy people have any idea? I'm on 3.6.3, but I only loaded that to try and solve the problem...it was happening in the previous version.

  4. I have the Korum Lightweight Accessory Chair, with all the bits and bobs, including rod rests, side tables, bait boxes, extra legs, extending arms, umbrella holders and just about everything except the kitchen sink! I even have the arms, but they are still in their packaging as I never got round to using them! Yes, tackletarts-R-us!

It's fabulous, and I really can't fault it. I used it all last summer, including a few all night sessions, and it's very comfortable. It's certainly lightweight compared to the ones I see others using!

  5. Do any of these people being paid for out of our licence money actually DO anything ?

Yes actually, they do! Well, at least they do here in Lancashire!

I've reported potential pollution problems and out of season fishing on several occasions on my local stretch of river, and on each occasion I've had either a phone call or an email to tell me how their investigation is progressing. It seems their staff are a bit thin on the ground round here, but the last time I called (from Burnley) to report illegal fishing they sent someone out from Lancaster. That's quite a drive, which shows that the people I've dealt with really do try!

The last time I called about out of season fishing on my local river, the EA guy arrived at the river bank just as the culprits were leaving, so he had nothing to charge them with. Fair play to them - at least they got someone there, even if they weren't quite quick enough.

They can't be everywhere, but I can't fault the EA team in my area.

How many of us just whinge about the licence fee without actually seeing where it's being used, and how many of us actually use their services?

  6. It's a sad day Steve...the AN photo monthly photo comp was the reason I bought my first proper digital camera, shortly followed by my DSLR.

Many thanks for all your help, both here and on Focal Planet. I'd still be floundering like a fish out of water without all the help I've had.

Unless someone steps up to host it, then I guess it's bye-bye to the Anglers Net monthly photography competition? I'd love to do it, but I simply don't have the time or the expertise. Steve gave me the destructions for posting the results each month when he was too busy, but apart from that, I haven't got a clue!

What do you say guys? Is there anyone who can host it in its current form? Or do we go back to the original format, with photo's being posted on here and then a vote - or do we just let it go?

  7. I reckon I'd do the same as Brian but without doing it in my birthday suit

Pah! You are such a spoilsport sometimes! I would have paid good money to see that...

I know the predicament...I lost my landing net handle on the last day of our narrowboat cruise last month whilst we were unloading the boat. I know exactly where it is. The damn thing rolled off the dockside and landed vertically, but we just couldn't find it with a magnet. I'm sure it's sticking up in the mud laughing at me!

  8. Really, if the fish was already hooked, would it make any difference whether the hook had been tied using polystyrene or wood? Surely if if was enough to hook them then it should have been able to hold them?

Incidentally, I always use Kamasan B911s. They've never let me down yet.

I don't tend to suffer from dropped fish, but I'd be very interested to hear your comments.

  9. Oh Gawd and there was me keeping it quiet this year!

Well you did a bloody good job Alan! I only got back last Saturday after a month's holiday on the canals and didn't have a clue that the PAAS event was this weekend...I knew it was soon, but I hadn't had time to check. Martin usually lets me know in plenty of time, but not this year. I will castigate him soundly when I see him again!

Despite a frantic phone call to wake my fishing buddy up after reading this thread, there's no way I can make it at such short notice. Unfortunately I don't drive, so I have to rely on other folk for transport to anywhere that isn't on a bus route....

For anyone who's thinking of going, it's usually a fabulous day out with the added chance of a bargain. I came away from it last year with a great set of brand new Ron Thompson padded waterproof bib 'n' brace and jacket from the "Bring and Buy" stand which has served me well through the winter and our recent boating trip for the princely sum of just £15.00. The previous year I bought a lovely hardback book on fly fishing and had it beautifully illustrated and autographed by the author, Charles Jardine, after he'd completed his fantastic fly fishing demonstration. I do hope he's not going to be there this year. If he is, I'll be even more p**d off at having to miss it! He is one of the most entertaining and inspirational anglers that I've ever had the pleasure to meet.

I also won a rather nice Abu Suveran feeder rod in the raffle, which I'm ashamed to say is still languishing in its bag....

To conclude...I hope it rains and you all have a miserable time! If however, the weather is as good as it's forecast, then you'll have a fabulous day out. Just don't post on here and tell me how good it was or I may need to kill someone...

  10. I'd concur with Snotty, although the chair I have is the standard Korum accessory chair, not the padded version, but I find it very comfortable, even for overnight sessions.

The range of accessories (including arms) is excellent and it's a well built sturdy piece of kit. Unfortunately though, it doesn't recline. I have all the extras, such as side table, bait boxes, brolly arm etc and it really makes for a comfortable day fishing, with everything readily to hand.
