Just a theory

Cod stocks depleting? yes. Is it as bad as the press makes out? I dont know. Brittish fishermen are quite rightly being made to cut their catches but are the spanish or any other plunderers of our seas being met with the same rules? Probably not. Will trawlers return undersize fish ALIVE? hahaha! Do the same goverment that pretend to care know all this? Too right they do. Thus making me think there is more to this than meets the eye.

Could the fact that the north sea has got slightly warmer be moving the cod to cooler climats? Just a theory.mmc

I don't know the answers either. Does anyone, or is just one of those subjects on which everyone has their own theory?

The catch quotas are supposed to apply to all European Countries so it OUGHT to have an effect but I believe it's too little too late, yet again.

Remember the herring crisis, almost wiped out and a total ban for quite a few years saved it. Cod reach maturity quite quickly so the same solution might work. For the sake of a few fishermen's jobs it would be worth it. After all I, along with many other millions have faced redundancy, why shouldn't the fishing industry accept reality just as the miners had to.

The public might whinge about losing their cod in batter, but they could always eat pouting! Elliot B can tell them how to do it!!

Back to your theory MMC. The Bristol Channel is warmer than the North Sea and recently must be more fresh water than salt with all the flood water, BUT currently it's stuffed full of cod. Have a look at the catch reports on Veals web site. Its just one more of those fish mysteries.

Perhaps someone out there knows the answer but it beats me!

Keep baiting your hooks!
