I've been a member of Sedbergh Angling Ass. for 11 years, fishing on the

river Lune. you pay a joining fee along with yearly subs, this year on

receiving a letter from the visiting secretary, I was shocked to see that it

said that I would not be able to re-join the club because [uN-known to me]

complaints

had been made against me with regards moving down a pool at night whilst

sea-trouting.

this I found very strange as for the whole of last year, either I fished

with my friends or alone. there was never a time when anyone approached the

pools I was fishing or made themselves known

the committee had decided to act on the words of the visiting sec. at the

committee meeting in November, stating that I had breached rule 8 on

numerous occasions. Rule 8 states that when others are waiting to fish, you

should keep moving at a rate no slower than 3 casts / step.

I was never informed about this meeting or allowed any say in the matter,

I'd been thrown out of the club for something that I'd not done.

I've hit a brick wall!!

they say that I am only a visiting ticket holder and not a member of the

club. I questioned this, I'd paid a joining fee and had always assumed that

this was to allow me to become a member of the club. the reply I got back

was that the £50 joining fee was for administrative costs in the first year!

on speaking to the secretary he told me that he did not have to explain

anything to me, and that the rules state "the sale of fishing tickets shall

be entirely at the discretion of the committee." he did not want to hear my

defence

and he was backing the visitors secretary.

Is this the normal way to treat a person who's paid his subs on time yearly?

that has introduced new people to the club.

others have also been thrown out for the same reason, they have been going

there for 30 years! one of them only fished twice at night all year.

sounds to me that they like to take your money but don't want you to fish!

I just want some thoughts on this subject

Your ex-club sound like really charming people, I am surprised you stayed with them so long.

When you first joined they surely gave you a copy of the rules and any bylaws pertaining to the use of the waters and your standing a "visitng" member. If they did I would tend to read these VERY carefully and then perhaps consult my learned friends. What they have done, if the facts as stated are tru, and I have no reason to doubt you is against natural justice and may well be in breach of European Law, which in the case of human rights previals over British and/or Scottish law.

Anyway are sure you would wnat to go back to fish amongst the heathen.

I hope you get it worked out, try writing to The Salmon and Trout Association for their view and one or more of the better quality game fishing magazines. If all else fails publish the names of these "nice gentlemen" so that we can all be warned of the potential for being ripped off by them.

Conversely you could live with the attitude that when they get to the pearly gates St. Peter will say "No more trout for you, go below and fish for pike!" Posted Image

sympathy tlfe

i did try again with the secretary and the president, but to no avail. it was like banging my head against a brick wall. your suggestion to write to T&S may be a good idea, but at the moment i'm a little busy. if i do i will let you know via this BB.
