barbel set up

as a "beginner" to barbel fishing i have been barbel fishing twice and have only ever landed one barbel of around 3lb. i was wondering what specialist tackle is available and if it is worht gettin some. is there anything anyone can recommend?

Couple of questions -

 

What sort of venue are you fishing for them?

Do you know how big the Barbel in there go?

What gear have you been using so far?

well when i went my friends landed about a 6lb barbel and it was at the river severn in bridgnorth

i have been using a cheap quiver tip and a reel with 8lb mono line on

It would be a good idea visiting one of the barbel sites (I know BFW has a novices section) or doing an internet search for barbel articles. You'll probably be able to pick up a lot of information that way.
