Which travel rod? Please help!

Brilliant, another vote! Cheers Dales! :)

 

I'm looking at the shimano exage (as described on the web-page):"stc 270mh travel spinning rod 2.70m casting 15-40g 6 pce rod".

 

Is that the same as the STC240-270MH Exage Travel Spin (6pc) 8ft and 9ft rod? Sounds like a silly question but I want to make sure I'm not ordering the wrong one. The price is £55 (+P&P) which seems quite cheap; the cheapest I've seen apart from that is £65 (+P&P)

 

Not sure if they are the same, as Shimano do a few different Exage travel rods. The one I have is called the Shimano STC240-270MH Exage Travel Spinning Rod, weighted 15-40g and its a six piece rod, So I assume they are the same, It's strange the way different web sites list they same item, some times they leave out bits of the code etc and you are never really sure are they the same thing even if the pictures look the same.

 

It may be worth thinking about what the main style of fishing is you intend to use the rod for, a few people have suggested the John Wilson which may be the better option if you are planning fishing baits on hooks.

 

The main reason I went with the Shimano as I tend to lure fish on holiday and was sure that it was up to the job of casting a decent size spinner and could deal with the odd large preditory fish. It works ok with floats, but the action is not ideal for small fish. So I would recommend the Shimano if yout plans are more along the lure fishing, but the JW may prove more versatile.

 

Anyway good luck with which ever option you choose, you can't beat fishing on holiday. I always find it exciting catching new species even if they are tiddlers :D

I'm of the same opinion as Alan Roe and would go for the John Wilson for sure.

Well, when the time comes to going away to foreign lands, I'll have a look at the local fishing scene and see what's more appropriate. But at least now I've been reccomended two good rods to suit different types of fishing. Many thanks for all your comments, chaps. Now all I've got to do is decide where to go away! :huh: Now, that could cause a debate..... :D
