Grebey guts

Today, at Bainton Fisheries, I watched a grebe catch and swallow a pike that must have weighed around one and a half pounds. In fact the pike was probably longer than the grebe's body, so how it managed it I can't imagine. I once watched one at the Wissey Outfall swallow twelve twelve eels in succession, each one being around ten inches long. This is obviously just about physically impossible, yet I watched it with my own eyes. If a grebe can do that, just think by how much the "experts" are under estimating the capacity of a cormorant.

English as tuppence, changing yet changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss Havishambling, opsimath and eremite, feudal, still reactionary, Rawlinson End.

I have personally watched a cormorant devour at least 3 eels and the same amount of fish within a ten minute session in padstow harbour. believe me those guys are eating machines.
