PC Through TV Problem

A mate rang me recently with this problem....

 

He used to run his laptop through his TV screen with some kind of lead.

 

He's tried it with his new PC, but it freezes during boot-up.

 

However, if he boots up through a monitor and then plugs the PC into the TV, it's fine.

At a wild guess, I would say that when he has booted up normally and then connected the television, he will then need to right-click on his desktop and bring up the control panel for his sound card (my NVIDEA one works like this anyway). He should then be presented with options for setting up a second monitor and if the TV is a plug and play one, the computer should be able to pick up its driver. Sorry, getting a bit woolly here, but I think that's sort of how it works
