Debate on 5 Live on whether angling should be banned now that the Scots have banned hunting.

RSPC spokeman is still quoting the Medway Report on fish and pain, research which has been shown to be wrong and which even the writers have agreed has been misread.

Ban fishing?

Could this EVER become a reality?

Id wager almost anything that this wouldnt happen.....largest participation sport in the country isnt it?

I could see that going down well.

Right, to be a little pedantic, the debate was wider than just "Should angling be banned".

But I found the stance of the CA spokeswoman very interesting. She seemes to imply that she would actually support regulation on all field sports where by the quarry was not killed either for vermin control or for the pot. She actually quoted match angling. Now there's solidarity for you.

It gets back to what I see as the core issue. The CA has been hi-jacked by the fox hunting brigade. These people will go to any lengths to prevent a ban on fox hunting in England and Wales.

Regards

I listened to that debate and I could not believe it when one bloke said "there are some fisheries that are over stocked and the fish are over fed so they do not eat each other". Where do they get these ridiculous ideas from!

The tone of the debate seemed to be, what will be next? Why dose anything have to be next?
