piking in ireland

Just a word to say a thank you to a group of anglers that were over from England to fish the river suck a few months back. While i was fishing i was talking to them two foreign nationals passed us out and they had five dead pike between them. The lads were furious and left the fish killers in no doubt what they were doing was totaly unacceptable and AGAINST THE LAW. The government here dont seem to care about whats happening to our waterways and to see the attitude of the english anglers was a credit to all of you. I wish you all the best and you will always be welcome to our shores,

Tight lines :)

A bit late I feel as for years Ireland has encouraged the German tourist who love to stock up on pike and the misguided fishery managers that want to kill anything that hasnt got an adipose fin. I realy feel for Irish pikers.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

The Suck is still a fantastic piking river if you're prepared to put in a good hike to the more remote areas. I find it's rare to encounter another angler, especially an FN. In most other parts of the country it is different. Often find myself thinking "where have all the Irish anglers gone...??"
