Green energy fisheries

This week I had a visit from a fisheries management consultant and an expert in 'creative use of clay' (basically, funding the project through earth-movement) and so begins my VERY long journey trying to build a fishery.

I read somewhere recently about a green-powered fishery being planned in the north-west and wondered if there were other fisheries running entirely on renewable energy?

There's no power supply close to my proposed location and while it's possible to run power there and even affordable due to the volume of earth-movement, I started thinking about solar and wind power as an option.

At this moment in time, I don't know what the final plan for a fishery will be. It's unlikely to be a day-ticket location, but beyond that, we have many hurdles to overcome before we start planning the end-game.

I figured the local authority would be interested in a green-powered location, so if there are any fisheries with green-power, I'd be interested to know where & how etc.

Cheers

For a couple of days now, I've been firmly in 'green' mode. I even rung the institute of fisheries management to see if they had any info or advice - nope!

I have to say I'm surprised at the lack of eco-friendly fisheries out there. Or maybe they are there, just not a big deal made out of the green issues (I guess you're more interested in what's in the water :P ).

solar power borehole pump for water supply (not lake filling), solar panels on the cabin, burning eco-friendly briquettes to keep warm in the winter! I think I could build a completely self-sustaining fishery with barely no impact on the environment.

But surely I can't be the first to think this way?

I think most fisheries go one better by having no powered infrastructure at all! ;)

If you want a club house, and there is no mains supply already in place, it will probably make simple economic sense to have some kind of microgeneration solution. If you have mains, I suspect that the pay-off time will be uneconomic for the relatively low consumption required, but you would need to run the figures. If you want to do it from an ideological point of view, though, that doesn't matter. First company on this search might be worth a look:

Seems to me that if you are going to be digging a bloody big hole and filling it with water, you might want to consider a heat pump solution at the design stage:

Many thanks Steve, have pinged off a couple of extra emails - hadn't considered those heat-pumps before, great stuff.
