fishing clubs on the net

Hi my names Richard I am the communications officer for Barnet and District angling Club.I started moving around message boards and forums afewmonths ago and I seem to see the same names where ever I go on the web. There must be more anglers in the UK, using the net, but they seem very reluctant to actively participate in any form of disscussion. I know from an angling club point of veiw we have had around 1500 hits to our site in around 12 weeks, but i would say over half of these are from the US.

What has happened to the millions of anglers that go fishing every weekend, I know from stats that the amount of home pc's and service providers is moving at an alarming rate. so why are they not using the net for fishing info. Do you think our sport is complimented by the web, or is it something that can only really be experienced rather than read about.

As someone who gets over 300,000 hits a month on his site (at the last look), predominantly from the UK, I'd advise you to be a little more patient with your site and to persevere.

There's so much hype about the internet written by people who know nothing about it that we're all led to believe that all you've got to do is register a dot.com name, put something on it to sell and go out and order your first Rolls Royce.

The internet can be very useful, particularly when utilised in conjunction with your overall marketing mix - take a look at my work site - http://www.clarecraft.com - I launched that about 18 months ago and it now contributes quite a high percentage to my overall turnover.

This is getting seriously off topic for this forum, so I'll finish with an on topic analogy:

Your website, and everyone else's, needs constant work to make it popular. Think of it like prebaiting - I've spent a year working on this site and it's now coming together nicely. I haven't quite banked my first cyber-forty, but I can net twenties with alarming regularity.

Shame I can't do it in the real world, eh biggrin.gif

Elton

One thing I use the net for is to try and get other anglers to think about some of the political issues which surround our sport. Of course some do not like what I say and at times they are not my views however they are questions that need answers, and at times I must say its like pulling teeth, but I plod on. I wish you well with your site.

Well, David, with this site hosting pages for the Specialist Anglers' Conservation Group and the Sea Anglers' Conservation Network, you should feel right at home here smile.gif

Sounds good to me - you've got a little while, though. Next update is Monday and I already have an article from you.
