I am 16 years old and have been fishing for 6 months.

Over the bankholiday weekend I am going to Elvington lake near york and would like to know if any 1 has any rigs and baits to help me pull in my first tench or carp.

The water if full of carp from 2lb to 35lb

tench 1lb to 10lb and lots of smaller fish like chublin perch roach and gudgen and the odd bream. Please can some one help me please I would be so grateful, thanx Chris eyre

Hi Chris,I've never fished Elvington so can't help you there.(any further north than Northampton and I get a nose-bleed!)

If I were you,as far as carp and tench go,I'd keep it simple.

On the bottom use a simple running rig(1-2oz) with a 20-30cm nylon hooklink.(or braid if you've got some and don't mind the odd tangle)

A knotless-knotted size 8 hook with either sweetcorn or troutpellet on the hair.

Failing that,if it's warm, try for carp using chum mixers or breadcrust on the surface.

I'm not sure what gear you've got i.e carp rod, match rod, feeder rod,but hope this is of some use to you.

Gaffer.
