Ever wondered how fish manage to get around the giant Kielder Dam? Well for the first time you can see for yourself next weekend (14 May) at an open day at the Environment Agency’s Kielder Hatchery.

 

Fisheries officers will tell the tale of how young salmon are caught, tagged and transported around the 174-foot dam which was built to create Kielder Water. There will even be an opportunity to get involved in the catching and measuring of the young fish.

 

Also on offer is a tour of the hatchery and the chance to see young salmon, sea trout and the exceptionally rare pearl mussels which are bred at the facility..........

Blast!!! I'm up North two weeks later I would have fancied going along to this.
