My first try!

Hey all,

Managed to get out to the water for the first time today and have a play with my new rod. Decided to start off on the Itchen by the tidal part (before woodlands bridge) and see if I could get any bass. As I expected, I couldn't (LOL!) but I have it a shot.

Best I got was one bite but it got away, but pretty pleased for my first time fishing. Went to the nearest bait shop and they were helpful getting me with a hook and float good for the river etc and I think the problem was the weather was just not on my side.

Down on the itchen there is a pontoon which is great for fishing and just as I got my first bite a (very inconsiderate) woman with her brat trounced onto the fishing pontoon and started throwing bread out. A few moments later and the whole thing was covered in swans and I had no way of casting my rod safely (esp considering I was using barbed tackle and the thought of getting that in a swan was not good). After I had waited a good 30mins for the swans to disperse I tried for another hour but got nothing more. The wind was too high to every time I cast off the pontoon it would blow back in shore. I was using a simple hook, with 4-5 AAA shots and then a small float. I think next time I go I will try using a weight and one of these helicopter rig.

Ah well thought I would just share my first, unsuccessful, attempt at fishing and sea fishing (I think tidal counts as sea right? ;))

Good effort, there should be plenty of school bass around that way.

Small but good sport, if your after a meal, please remember the minimum size limit.

(Apolagise in advance for mentioning that bit)

Better of taking a few mackerel home, more taste. good fishing to you.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

just really annoyed at that stupid chav mum coming onto the fishing pontoon when I had a line out, I should have politely asked her to go somewhere else because it wasted half an hour waiting for the swans to go and I had lines out that I had to very quickly pull back to I didn't snag a swan. People just don't think. There was half a mile of open river side she could have thrown bread from, there was no need to draw birds into a fishing rod. ARRGG..first fish related rant over :)
