BAITS FOR BIG TENCH

what baits would you reccomend for big tench and what size hok should i fish with when tackling them thanks

If you go to the artcles section, pick Jim Gibbinson, he has an article regarding his top favourite tench baits. You may find it interesting. My biggest tench of 5 1/2 lb came to a ledgered broad bean.

You can`t beat Worms fished over Casters and Hemp, well it works for me

Being a carp angler my best tench came to boilies. Now I should add that I was fishing for the tench (no carp in the water) and in that particular session I had one on maggot and the other 2 on boilies. My mate has had a lot more on that water to maggots, and they would appear to better than baits like corn, at least there.

depends on the water,but the best thing i find is if you want to just catch tench you want a bait that doesnt catch the small fish,

in a lake i fish small roach love sweetcorn if you fish single/double loads of small roach,with the odd tench,

i get round this by fishing 4/5pieces of corn on an 8 or 10 (next time you catch a tench have a look in its mouth even small tench 1 to 2lb will take this)you get fewer bites but a much higher ratio of tench,

 

this doesnt mean you need big baits for tench as they are just as likley to take a single caster meant for roach.

dont be afraid to experiment!

and if your going tench fishing whatever you use always take a couple of slices of bread,

big pices of flake can be deadly, although you usually have to wait a bit longer for the bites,and will often pic up big roach as a bonus!

i preffere double corn fished over a bed off small trout pellets.On size 16 or 14 hook and 3lb maxima stright though.Iff fishing on the pole i like to use a dual bung 6-8 or 6-12 eelastick with 4lb line.Had my best tench on double corn but as someone pointed out befor can get pestered bye small fish.
