Not really fishing but you may be interested in this.

Scenario: Stock on land bordering the farm adjacent to home of anon found to be infected with FMD. Stock slaughtered and burnt. Some managed to escape the slaughtermen's guns and escaped over adjacent land for one night.

Stock on above farm, belonging to third party, also slaughtered as 'dangerous contact' approx. one week later. These were subsequently found to be infected.

Obviously the Farmer of the aforementioned farm would obviously be worried that his own stock would be culled as they were in an adjacent field to those in the previous paragraph. How right he was. Ten days later the 'Men from the Ministry' turned up to do just that only to be called away on a more urgent mission.

One week later they return and this time slaughter the stock over a three day period and light the fire on the fourth day. Obviously blood samples were taken to determine whether they were infected and duly sent off to HQ. The results of these would determine the fate of the stock on neighbouring farms.

Alas the blood samples have been lost so no conclusion can be drawn.

Meanwhile the Army carry out disinfection duties on vehicles passing the farm entrance. Only problem is they go home at 6pm and take the disinfection equipment with them. After three days they then move onto another site so presumably no need now for the major disinfection procedures. Four days later the Ministry decide to bar access ot the farm.

I swear that none of the above is true and that it is only the storyline of a forthcoming novel!.
