Zig Rig?

Some rigs have names that are self-explanatory, but this is not always so!

So, can anyone tell me from where the 'Zig Rig' gets its name?

Also, any other carpers out there know of other unusual names for rigs?

Hello "M"

Could it be named after Zyg the chap that owns Anglers Paradise? Just a thought.

Cheers Keith.

Hi all,

The Zig rig is a long hooklink rig to avoid it tangling during cast you consateena (sp?) the hooklink and tie it in the middle with PVA. This then dissolves leaving you with a long trace and give the fish plenty of movement with the bait and confidence without resistance.

The Zig Rig was invented by Zenon Bojko when he was fishing at Layer Pits in Essex. I imagine that is where the name came from the 'Zen Rig' hasn't got quite the same ring to it.

The rig was used to suspend a bait x amount of feet off of the bottom to intercept cruising carp.

They played on while the reel handles spun in unison.

it could be because when folded in 3 and tied with PVA, the hooklink is like a flattened Z. who knows? the zen origin sounds right. good question malc!

what other items of tackle have strange names? spod? where is *that* from? why not call it a 'berdosh'?
