Tackle Insurance

Having just read the thred on vehicle brake-ins and tackle losses, it set me thinking about tackle insurance.

I have my tackle insured through my household contents policy, for an overall value of around £2000, but it is worth more than this.

I have just looked at the tackle insurance link at the top of the site and to get insurance of similar cover figure you need to fork out around £50. Also, there appears to be the usual annoying rubbish that you see from these insurance leaches, about only items over £100 and specified are covered. This seems excessive, with too many get out clauses on their part!

Is it that I am out of touch? As I have never had to claim. Is my household contents insurance sufficient or should I be looking for one of these specialist deals, even though they are more expensive?

What have been your experiences of tackle insurance claims?

My car insurance said I should't have let my kit unatended in the car so they didn't pay out. So I claimed on the house and on the phone they said no problem, but when it came to the claim for it was a differant matter. They said sports equipment wasn't covered. After loads of pressure from me and the mrs they gave in but only got part of the claim. I now insure at extra premium for specific kit up to £2500 that is if it's in the car or at home. But the best thing is to keep your eye on your kit.

I'm afraid that is insurance companies for you.Unless you want to pay higher premiums for better insurance you are stuck with it.

Nick,

That's exactly what happened to me. Had only $5000 insurance. I am not sure what the total value loss was.

I was stupid enough to have cash in the truck. Not insured at all.

The insurance Co. wanted receipts, purchase dates etc. Makes you feel rather inadequate when all that stuff is not kept. I don't keep it all, at least not well.
