Reminents of an old Wharf

i was out a few weeks ago to get my nephew out of the house and off the xbox so we took a short trek up to pinkston basin, an old Wharf on the Forth & Clyde canal which has seen much better days. all the old buildings are now long gone but there are still a few things left like the Swing bridge, footbridge and the massive barge left from years ago.

the wharf has been getting some works done and was drained a few years ago but nothing has been done to it since then (rumors of land disputes etc etc) but now it looks as though work is going ahead as the connection from spiers wharf to pinkston basin is now 100% complete.

its been propsed this old wharf be turned in to a paddle sports centre that will look like this:

click here for google map of what it currently looks like (the demagio distillery has been demolished now though)

Anyway here are the pictures i took. some have been quite modified in photoshop with only gradient maps to improvee the blue sky in one photo and some cool looking black and whites and usual color tweaks here and there but really nothing major.

pictures 1 and 5 are both the same. 5 being taken from behind it (if you were looking at it from pic 1's point of view)

its an old swing bridge but its exact use is a mystery to me. i assume its for taking goods from one side of the canal to the other.

the swing bridge floor is made from large pieces of timber with rails going along its entire length (think thin train tracks) there was a railway around this area but now gone, apparently there is still some of the original tracks around here but i am yet to find them. the tracks on the swing bridge are far too thin for trains or atleast i think they are, perhaps not ?
