Stokes Bay Saturday Night

Got to beach at about 8 pm - low water. Felt we should be in for a decent session. Sea was falling after a day or two of near gale force winds and the tide conditions had produced OK on previous occassions.

Hoped for decent bass ? or perhaps a few nice whiting ? another brill would have been great (absolutely delicious).

It was hard work - between two of us - 4 pout and three small smooth hounds. I caught this gurnard of about a pound, which cheered me up - it was so pretty !

We gave up about 1 am.

Was it a tub or a red? If it was a red then thats a nice one! (over here anyway).

Supposed to taste great but they look so daft I always put them back

Not sure which now you mention it ! I'll look it up. I let it swim away none the worse for wear

Just looked them up on 'Fishbase' - still a little unsure - think it was a tub. It was very red though

Tubs have a really bright blue rim around the pectotal fins, beautiful

Richard, My mate caught a tub gurnard from Eastney about 3 weeks ago.
