forget those lincolnshire peeler bloke baits, if you do a search on here for them, you won't find anyone with anything good to say about them

Hi Ben,

Dont be put off mate. Persevere and you will get there. As for the bait - Avoid the lincolshire peelere guy. He sells nothing you couldnt get from morrisons at seamer a lot cheaper. THe castle foot shop is a good place for bait too. Mussel and worm is a good bait at this time of year. I think as Skippy has found it might be a good idea to find where other people fish and get chatting to them. Nighttime is usually mor productive than day (but not always). If you would like to catch a few whiting using fish baits like makeral is a good idea at a venue like whitby beach over high water, this week would be perfect for that. The area near the docters in sandsend is a good plaice plus I gauruntee there will be lots of other anglers there to learn from.

If its cod your after youll have to learn some slightly different techniques and go out onto the rocks which is usually best at low water. Dont expect to catch immediately as the fish arent about in the numbers they once were (sorry no point lieing), but stick at it, learn as you go and you will suceed.

Tricky question that ben. I would use a grip lead for whiting fishing, about 5oz although you could possibly get away with less. As you head into spring and summer you can start to target different species and a rolling lead could be more beneficial. I here the beaches around Filey and the peirs at Brid are good whiting marks. Try locate the filey angling club website and see what their catches are like. A steeper beach is sometimes beneficial but if you fish high water you should have enough water infront of you anywhere on the beach. Best to see where everyone else is fishing.

Its a good idea to read catch reports as you get a flavour of what is going on where and when.
