Don't know about the Silva Kevin, but I bought one of the above on the offer, very well made and robust unit with metal chassis like the Icom's together with 3 year warranty and 5W output. Best I could find for the money.

I have one on my boat, but will say I only really use it to monitor c16. I have had it for about 2 years with no problems so far.

Don't have first hand knowledge of the Silva, but have heard plenty of those that have had bad experiences with them, I would save your money and buy an icom or Entel, the icom is used by the RNLI so has to be good.

 

When purchasing that each watt in power is equal to 1 mile line of sight contact, so worth buying 5 watts or more.
