  1. If I anchor or want to hook up from the stern do I need another clamcleat facing the other way ?
  2. Cheers for that link I took advantage of their 3 for £26.99 deal and they arrived today. That should keep me going for a while, as long as I don't have any mishaps Kevin
  3. Hi Rob sorry to hear your misfortune. When I bought my Humminbird FF it was supplied with a transom mount transducer. I contacted OK and they supplied me with the boot via my local dealer. The transducer and boot were a perfect fit and therefore something must have changed in the supply. I suggest you try to contact Andrew at Johnson Outdoor as he has pointed me in the right direction on a number of occasions and quite often views and posts on this site Kevin
  4. Sorry guys I see Paul was posting on the very same subject just before me Must show how important this topic is then.
  5. Hey Paul amazingly you were posting this the same time as I was posting on the very same subject
  6. I recently had an opportunity to practice capsize drills and was surprised at how difficult it can be. Firstly a pocket full of bits on my buoyancy aid was catching and preventing me from getting across the kayak. I emptied the pocket and then still had some difficulty getting across the yak, with the yak rolling upside down each time my weight was on one side. After about the fifth attempt I managed it and found the technique. I was only up to my neck in water and therefore was able to rest and think after each attempt, but if I had been out of my depth it would have been in a very uncomfortable experience. I am quite new to kayak fishing and have spent the first six months in the confines of Christchurch harbour where you are never more than 100 yards from shallow water. I am now looking to venture out of the harbour and fish off of Hengistbury Head etc. Firstly there have been quite a few new characters joining this forum recently and I urge you all to go and practice capsize drills before you need to do it for real. Secondly does anyone have any tips on re entry into the yak. I remember seeing a video on this site last year and it looked easy……does it get any easier the more you do it or has anyone got any useful tips. Regards Kevin
  7. Hi Rob I have a prowler Elite and a Humminbird FF. I bought the transducer boot from Johnson Outdoor and it fits a treat. You will need to find a way to loose all of the excess cable from the transducer. I think most of us who have this setup just coil it up into the forward cup holder and fit either a plastic or wooden cover over the top to keep it tidy. I think the transducer boot was about £30. Cheers Kevin
  8. Hi Ray once you fitted your transducer boot what did you do with all the excess transducer cable. I have a 4.5 Elite and have coiled the remaining cable into the cup holder. Not ideal and a wondered if you or anyone had a better solution. Kevin
  9. Hi Roger I would be interested in seeing some photos of the finished version of your Johnny Bar. I bought one from Hook1 in the US. Its not much to look at and a bit overpriced but it does the job just fine. It cost about £45 once delivery to the UK was included. Luckily I never got stung by customs as this would have probably added another 15-20 quid. Cheers Kevin
  10. Not good news knowing that I have a set of pretty useless flares in the pocket of my pretty useless PFD And with my pretty useless transducer boot things are definitely not looking up
  11. Thanks for the update Simon. The transducer boot arrived today….unfortunately it’s got a long split down the side of the rubber transducer housing and will not last 5 minutes. I will be asking for a replacement ASAP but I guess it will not make the weekend and so fitting will have to be put off for another week. I can now se how it should all fit together and how to hide all the cables Cheers for all the inputs from all members….including a Hummingbird in a cage!!! Kevin
  12. Hi Bill Sorry for not responding sooner….not been around much this weekend. I used link you gave me to contact Johnson Outdoor and they lived up to their reputation. I got a response from Andrew within an hour or so. Great service. For info, the purpose boot for the Prowler Elite & Humminbird transducer is available from Johnson Outdoor via OK retailers at a cost of about £28. So thanks Bill for your help and cheers to Snakey and John for your input. Kevin
  13. Thanks Bill I will give it try as the solution they have looks quick and simple Cheers Kevin
  14. Cheers for that.. It looks like I need the special transducer boot. I guess that an O K bit of kit as I have not seen it on the Humminbird web site.
  15. It's worth visiting this site every day just for the humor... Cheers for that advice I will keep it in mind. How often do I need to lift the cage? BLOBBY
  16. Hi I have bought a hummingbird fish finder and will be fitting it over the weekend. Can anyone give me some tips on fitting the transducer into the transducer housing on a Prowler Elite. What do I do with all the spare cable???? How did you get the transducer to stay in place??? I can use the info on anglers afloat to install the battery etc but just can not see how the transom mount transducer is pulled into the pre molded housing. Also any tips on preventing salt water corrosion of the terminals would also be a bonus Cheers BLOBBY
  17. Happy New Year has anyone any good or bad info on the SILVA S12 Handportable Radio. http://www.force4.co.uk/ProductDetails/mcs...9a-b0980aa7db19 </a> Time to spend the Christmas cash and this looks OK to me Hope the link works OK first time I have tried it cheers Kevin
  18. Hi Paul I bought the hyperdry pro at £ 205 at the end of November. I have been out in Christchurch Harbour in some pretty poor conditions since and have to say so far ten out of ten. It has not been warm enough yet to test how much moisture it keeps in when paddling for a long spell and so I can not comment on the breathable side of things. As far as the neck design goes…its quite high and tight but not uncomfortable. If you want to have a look at it pm me and we can sort something out Cheers Kevin
  19. Someone sent me this a few weeks ago. I have been going to post it for a few days now but now the timing is good. Sorry if you have already seen it but some will not have BLOBBY
  20. My 10 day trial period is over and the software will not let me use the maps now. Has anyone registered for the full version or extended the trial period.
  21. Try www.kayakfishinggear.com
  22. With my kids and their bikes my yaks in more danger in the garage than on the beach.
  23. Spot on. I tried to warm it up a bit by standing it in a cup of coffee from my flask. It didnt work.....cold coffe and cold pasta...
  24. Just a few more shots of the Johnny bar in action. YD & SMan The GPS is an old Garmin 3. It should be water resistant according to the label. Its quite basic but it gives the usual info speed, heading position etc. s2....I got your request tried to mail you back hope its worked. I will take the photos and mail them to the adress you passed on. BLOBBY
  25. Thought I would start a new thread on this as I have fitted the Johnny bar. After a lot of tinkering I realised that the thing sat inside the foot well and not on top With postage from HOOK1 USA it cost approx £40 which is quite a lot for what it is, but if you dont want to drill holes or spend time making one yourself (Which would probably cost about £15) its a quick solution. Please excuse the washing up....it was cold in the garage and so I invited the Yak into the kitchen I will field trial it tomorrow and let you know how stabe things are but first impressions are OK BLOBBY More Pictures
