Hi Jack. Chart Datum is, basically the depth at low water spring tides ie the lowest tide you are ever likely to experience. Tidal heights shown on Tide Tables for say Plymouth are the heights of tide above the Plymouth chart datum. Hope this helps.

Cheers mate, thats a big help, im just trying to find my way around them, so may have one or two other questions, its a bit like first seeing an ordance survey map for the first time.
