Christchurch Bay

Hi there,

I am new to this site. Do any of you fish the Christchurch Bay area? Last summer I fished several marks off Milford-on-sea picking up good sized bass and mackerel, the best area infront of hordle cliff. Are there any better areas?

Give me a shout if you are in the area and I may see you out on the pond.

Cheers.

Hi BK

Christchurch Bay is the nearest venue for a number of us. Richi fishes the ledge quite a lot, I also fish the bay and ledge preferring to get out a mile or so when I do. We usually hook up to a pot buoy when we fish there and the same spot is not always fished. The ledge dropoff is an area I'll often try when I'm fishing the bay.If you haven't already worth buying a marine chart for the bay so you can see where some features are.

Are you Barton based? Must try along Barton for the sole down there.

Hi SpeciMan,

Yes I am based in Barton, but I tend to go out from Milford as I have a beach hut there. It's handy for pit stops and lunch if you pick up a good fish!

I haven't tried Barton as the cliff's are a bit awkward to get down.

Thanks for the tips. May see you out there.

Hi BartonYakker

There are a few of us based in and around Christchurch, been looking to fish your area from the Yak for sometime as it's my favourite shore spot. Spied Hordle Cliffs as a possible launch but guess you are going in at Milford? Regards fishing, should be loads of Small Eyed Ray all along to Highcliffe and possibly some reasonable Turbot, good Bass at Barton. Thought about doing a falling tide drift to Barton then back to Hordle Milford on the run-up (assuming springs) otherwise its not much of a paddle each way (now that I can manage a few miles!)

Anyway, to answer your question, Richi and Speciman already have, look on AnglersAfloat, we've recently had good Smooth Hound at Sowley, and if you're not bothered about distance there's the other end of the Solent, Poole Harbour the Purbeck coast and Portland.

Look forward to meeting you on the water
