atificial maggots

Not quite the same thing but I reckon it's relevant. I wrote this on P&P regarding hemp for roach and false bites on split-shot.

"It seemed to be a learning thing. On the first day the roach didn't eat any hemp as far as I could tell and the bites I was having were few and far between but as the days progressed they seemed to home in on it and the false bites developed at roughly the same rate.

It took me a few days to introduce the same roach to sweetcorn. I'm sure if I had yellow shot of a similar size, the same thing would have occurred. When I started using paste, again, it took me a few days to switch them onto it. People have often said that fake maggots don't work too well. I'm fairly certain that if you introduced the fish to dead maggots, they'd also switch onto fake maggots too.

It seems to me that roach will try anything, slowly but surely and once they've tried and accepted something, they'll try anything that looks similar too, which could be useful to know if a chosen bait is expensive."

I only really use them to keep my worm on the hook :P

A thick elastic band cut up into small squares does the same thing and it's much cheaper. The red ones that postmen leave lying all over the street in the morning are ideal.
