Florida NewSmyrna-DaytonaBeach Inshore Saltwater

Recommended Posts

Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River has been a great place to catch through the summer of 2016, it has been unusually dry so far this summer causing water levels to drop to very low levels which is a plus for lagoon fishing, concentrating the fish on drop offs, in holes, and on shallow grass flats. Tailing Redfish, live bait Seatrout catching, and backcountry mixed bag light tackle drift fishing have been some of my tactics producing fish this summer. We have had a great summer vacation season here in the New Smyrna, Daytona Beach, and Orlando with lots of visitors as well as locals going on fun fishing trips. Young Lane and his dad fished the Lagoon with me recently, Lane caught the best Redfish of the morning , then we Trout fished live baits catching loads of Specks..........................

Another longtime repeat client from Orlando also came on his yearly summer Lagoon trip, bringing friend Josh for his first time with me, early morning found us on a shallow flat close to an island shoreline, with good fish waking off the shore and Redfish up shallow with shimmering red backs out of the water, we sight fished a couple Reds and Josh caught his lifetime biggest Trout at 25”............................

More repeat clients from Georgia also brought a new friend on this year’s annual trip, we had a good Seatrout bite on live bait and newbie Jake caught an “over the slot” 28” Redfish..................

The calm ocean of summer allows for venturing out through Ponce Inlet for some near shore ocean fishing which we did a couple times this July. Theer are a couple of artificial reef areas with in easy reach of small boats, fun light tackle big game fishing can be quite exciting, on one of these trips we caught a few sharks, Blacktips, and Silkys, the highlight of this trip was a 30 plus pound Jack Crevalle caught by 15 year old Adian......................
