Tripod Blowing over???

Im ok with it on the sand as you can push it right in but on the rocks it just seems unstable

I used to use an Ian Golds tripod for beach and rock work but I usually struggled with it on rocks because I could never quite find the right place to pitch it . On the rocks I now use a lightweight telescopic rod rest (from Veals) - the adjustability of the telescopic legs (which extend from 3 to 6 foot) make it much easier to find little nooks and crannies to wedge them in perfectly which results in a stable rod rest :)

Another bonus is that the telescopic rod rest is much lighter than the goldsie one - a point worth considering when yomping to distant rock marks.

we don't bother with a tripod up here unless on sand where we can shove it in quite deep. there's hardly a day up here with no wind ha ha ha. on rocks we either just hold the rod or find a convenient chunk of rock to use as a rod rest with a towel or something under the rod.

Whilst we are on Tripods, which one is best, asking the wife to get me one for Xmas, been holding my own until now, but want to get my hands in my pockets during the winter months.
