Red Head Shads

Good luck Comus (if you haven't left yet) a bit late for this advice but lobworms fished off the bottom or live minnows caught in summer and kept in a tank in the shed until now will always beat lures for perch. Hard work looking after minnows, they need oxygen, but perch can't resist them.

I am a rank novice compared to some here but a few things I have learnt in my new career as a river lure fisherman:

Tread lightly on the bank, heavy footfalls will scare any fish away within 50 yards.

Always cast downstream.

Keep moving....10 casts per swim to cover all areas then move on.

Late afternoon is a good time.

Message to self: Carry a big landing net.

This one is important, have confidence in your lure, you will never catch with a lure you don't like...don't know why but it's true.
