Court Farm, near Aldermaston 3.45 - 6.30pm

A.T. 8degC dropping, W.T. 5degC

After all that snow yesterday I wasn't too optimistic, specially when the only other anglers on the lake when I arrived said they hadn't had a touch all day. But I think they had been mainly targeting the normally very willing carp. My challenge, however, was how to avoid said carp. I fished fine, float-fished maggot and caster, and although it was never bite-a-chuck I managed 9 roach, the best about 12 oz, and several over half a pound. I used no groundbait for fear of the carp, and fed sparingly bearing in mind the water temp. Carped only once. I've been there 3 times now, and although I've always had fish I haven't yet managed one above a pound, let alone the 2 pounders that are said to live there. Still, on my local club waters I doubtless would have blanked with a water temperature of 5 degrees, so happy enough with the result.

Thanks, Viney. It's hard to know where to go when the water temp is low in close season. As an OAP Court Farm only costs me £5, but I suspect it's £8 or 9 for most people.

Where abouts is it? There is also the pond at bishops green farm which iirc is £5 for the day

No doesn't really appeal to me either other than being easy to catch a few fish its just stuffed with small carp, not heard of court farm before, looks like a nice place to be compared to bishops green (and frobury farm for that matter!)
May have to take a trip up there, thanks for the info!
