River Kennet - Newbury

0700 - 1000

Bright and sunny - river quite low. (Though nowhere near as low as 2011)

1 Chub 3lb 11oz,1 Perch (circa 1lb) 40+ Dace & Roach (2/3rds dace to 1/3rd roach). 8 gudgeon and 2 spotties.

Pleasant morning's trotting in the sunshine. Nice to see so many silver fish in the river - like to see a few more chub and barbel though!

Do you manage to avoid the minnows Chris or just not include them? I caught around 10 minnows to every other fish yesterday evening at Brimpton

You'll avoid minnows in the faster water Matt but often you just then swap minnows for trout. I had a great trotting session at Brimpton last weekend, mostly chublets and trout but constant action.

They must follow me then, all I seem to catch when fishing maggot! I'm pretty sure we would have been fishing the same bit too Rusty (the one we discussed the other day) no matter if I fished nearside, farside or straight down the middle the minnows were there!
