River Kennet - Nr Thatcham

1800 - 2300

Clear evening becoming quite cool; 9ºC when we packed up.

7 dace, 3 roach (all small)

A pleasant social with Paul - sharing (practically) the same swim. Last hour of daylight spent trotting for the silvers followed by 4 hours looking at a near stationary isotope - save for the odd crayfish rattle.

Paul, however faired rather better getting this very fat 10lb 10oz barbel in the first hour of ledgering - our only bite of the evening.

Well done Paul!

I see that CP's barbelling strategy now includes a couple of hours pre-trotting to make sure he doesn't blank, might that be to avoid any Sun newspaper headlines? Our intrepid reporters will find a story.

Ah, rumbled!! - though in truth last night I was trotting a swim that looked decidedly 'chubby' the problem was getting a trot down to it before the minnows and or the micro roach and dace got to the bait!

Thanks Rusty :) Probably my one and only barbel session this year, I've spent too much time chasing crucians and tench!

I too did a bit of trotting prior to settling down with the barbel rods - managed a couple of small roach, and a couple of trout, one of which was just too big to be dinner sized !
